I gotta say Eddie plays his parts cleaner than Stone plays to my ears, at least nowadays. I dont hear much of it in older boots, but Eddie really does an amazing job on Corduroy, Sometimes, Better Man...the Sometimes in Moline was wonderful. Its so clean and perfectly rhythmic. I feel like Stone gets sloppy. Weird. Wonder when this happened.

I somehow followed a link to the old board by accident and when I was logged out and couldn't get back in I thought I just got banned for this topic <_<

Not even close. But it's weird with these anti-Stone threads. He's the founder of Pearl Jam though and the main creative force behind Ten, so I can understand if you hate him.

I totally agree with you, MJD... Stone is definitely the weakest link.

Never stop!

This a joke thread, right? Eddie is constantly flubbing lyrics and screwing up guitar parts.

Also, just in general, PJ's death spiral into garbage clearly coincided with Stone relinquishing more creative control to Ed.

I was really really impressed with Eddie here.

And one of my biggest criticisms of some of the live songs, when I listen to boots is that a lot end up dragging or seeming plodding in a weird way, or clunky. Like I want them to move and flow a little more than they do, like on the album. This pops up on some of my favorite songs (Elderly Woman, Daughter, Once) where they are clunky live and Im pretty sure ALL of that is due to Stone.

So when I heard that punchy Sometimes I was like wow, Eddie's got this down. He also impressed me on Off he Goes and Around the Bend from that same Moline show. He's killing it on the guitar and he sounds better than Gossard.

From a songwriting perspective I agree if Stone did the earlier ones.

From a live guitar playing standpoint I dont think Stone is very good.

Ed is a competent but very sloppy guitar player. If you think he's better than Stone then I really don't think you have any idea about guitar.

I finally found a video of Eddie playing Elderly Woman himself, and what a surprise its much better!!!

Stone has like no rhythm live I dont get it its so forced and clunky. And that's not even the worst version.

Im gonna go ahead and attribute this to Dave A being good enough to force the rhythm and punchiness on his own and Stone could just fall in place and it will sound groovy and cool. With Matt around Stone is lost.
