People are regularly advised to tell officers they're armed if they're stopped; in many places (I don't know about the area this happened) they're required by law to tell police.

I dont believe they are required to do so in Minnesota, which should have given the officer even more confidence that this was not a dangerous traffic stop. The guy was going above and beyond what a citizen should do.

For me, the worst part of that footage is seeing the little girl climbing out the door. She did not need to witness that.
The guy did nothing wrong. Fuck that cop, what a piece of shit.
He was trying to do what he thought was required of him. It is expected in some states that you immediately tell the cop that you have a carry permit.
To be fair to that cop, he only acted to the basis expected of him which is he gets to murder anyone that makes him scared. Fuck the courts for providing the precedent of the paranoid cop being the reasonable basis test.

the second amendment was put in place by the writers of the Constitution because they thought the gov't would eventually turn on its own ppl. murder the gov't and then...do it again? I suppose. As far as propaganda and privacy goes... sure, fear if a terrible decision maker, for anyone, especially for those with really terrible things to hide.
But the idea that violent resistance was any sort of solution to the problem of a big gov't, that is was essential for freedom....well....they also had slaves and said things like "the country ought to be run by those that own it" History has shown that non violent resistance has been the most positive and effective (and perhaps only) way to change a society by the people..to implement any sort of social progress. It does not seem to come from the government, for some reason they tend to resist change, of any kind.
The very arguments used to dismiss socialism and communism....that they require a massive government to maintain and sustain, thus leading to a lack of essential freedoms....the very same has proven to be true of capitalism.
And those who would trade essential freedoms for security deserve neither, for many reasons....but that should be obvious. After 9/11 the intelligence agencies pretty much started doing whatever they wanted...to everyone, including and perhaps especially American's.
Violence is the solution of the idiot. Apply that to everything.
It was supposed to be a revolutionary tool to take down an oppressive gov't...which has nukes and phosphorous bombs and artillery shells and on and and on and on...
But...and, just today, over 50 flights were unable to FLY. The air was so hot (over 110 degrees) there wasn't enough density to create any lift. Sort of a shitty technology....
Here's the situation ...and the CIA and NSA both sent reports-might have been under W....that the biggest threat to security in the coming years was going to be global warming.
The current "health care" bill in the 1 party sessions (definition of fascism btw) could be the largest transfer of wealth -from the poor to the rich-in the history of the United States.
Just looking around, train traffic has increased exponentially in this are....a couple have derailed, spilling grain.
Its seems to be an attempt to consolidate money (sort of imaginary at this point any way) and resources.
Its not really us vs them anymore. Its just us. They've accepted the position, the contract...public servants, elected officials...if we focus on security, security will be the issure-which means a lot of terrible things will happen to a lot of innocent people....if we choose to work towards a solution...
It's insane to me that he got off. Just stupefying. What an incompetent piece of shit.
Looks like a tragic accident. How would that officer know he was reaching for an ID and not a gun?
Accident is a very imaginative way of describing what that piece of shit did.
I know I'm gonna regret this, but what makes you think that cop intended to shoot the victim even 1 second before the words "I do have a firearm on me" were spoken?

I'm not a cop but once the guy says he has a firearm, why wasn't the process to remove him from the vehicle in order to secure the weapon? Why would he leave him in the vehicle and have him reach for his identification? There's no defense for the incompetence this guy displayed, and even though the justice system let him walk I hope he's haunted by what he did for the rest of his life.

To be fair, this cop is less of a fuck-up than Lon Horiuchi, and that guy never went on trial. Moral of the story: work for the feds and you can really murder people with impunity.
