The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.

So I watched a NOVA episode last night about nuclear power, and I am totally on board. Those new sodium reactors they are building look awesome.
Thorium, my even bro. Look at what India and China are doing.
I think we're talking about the same thing, because the show did mention the advances in China. Liquid fuel, with an automatic cooling system? Is that like thorium? I said sodium because this tech is apparently an extension of tech from like 50 years ago that was based on the cooking properties of sodium and potassium.
Molten Salt Reactors? Yup. This is the bridge technology for us to use (especially to handle population increases in Africa) while we develop real renewables.
Yea, Molton Salt Reactors. All the world's problems are solved!

Cut carbon emissions by >50% globally Bankrupt OPEC/Saudis Power desalinization in developing world Consumes existing nuclear waste Cannot be used in fission weapons Resources (recoverable thorium) already distributed throughout world, so no 'cartels' or wars over it We have 300 years worth domestically
It's pretty close.

That was pretty one dimensional. There are plenty of other ways, most important of which is to halt population growth globally, but especially in South America and Africa where some semblance of nature still exists.

Only some technological advancement brought on by rampant industrialization will save us, so get those coal factories burning!
Regulations do little more than outsource our relatively clean energy sources to the other side of the world where they have no regulations at all (and add on even more pollution thanks to transportating the goods back).

In Columbia last year Ed joked that our climate has switched places with Seattle's. Here, on the border of NC/VA, we've had rain 5 out of the last 7 days. The EPA is a waste of time, according to our "leaders". Meanwhile, the NASCAR race and all the private jets taking off from the airport here yesterday had GREAT weather..

Read something today that was alarming.
550 million plastic single use straws get used and discarded every single day in the US and U.K. and they take 200 years to break down and will poison the landfill when they do.
Campaign asking people to not use them has started.
China is planning on adding more coal plants than are operating in the US today:
