Love both of these. In fact, I wouldn't be upset to see either one win the entire tournament. But I'm voting for Sleight of Hand here. It's my personal favorite song on Binaural and one of my all time top 5 PJ songs. Such a gorgeous little number.

Along with Insignificance, which got a bye on account of winning, these are my two favorite Binaural tracks. Extremely different, it's also impossible for me to separate them, as I really kind of thing of that whole "side b" of Binaural as being of a piece. These are two of PJ's finest songs.
I think my initial thought is Sleight of Hand, but that may be because, in its way, it's a more welcoming track. Musicially, it's on the fringe of the sonic map PJ has made, butting up against the edge of (maybe) their capabilities. It's very unlike them, but the lyric is extremely empathetic. Eddie's done this a few times, making a simple lyric that really feels for the person they're describing. I feel that same empathy here. These lyrics...
As the merging traffic passed He found himself staring down At his own hands Not remembering the change Not recalling the plan
There's something about the last two lines that's so heartfelt and so sad. This wasn't how it was supposed to be for him.
But I may go for Rival. Everything about this song, from the discordant riff to the piano to the lyrical content, is warning you to stay away. It's one of the most uncomfortable things PJ has done, a David Lynch film in song form. It's one of its greatest tricks how on a surface level it sounds so fun but with only layer of the onion peeled it becomes truly menacing. I'll go with Rival but this match is a coin flip.

It's certainly not THE most boring song in their catalogue. Not even close. It IS way overrated though.
This makes far more sense to me. I mean, I disagree. But still. It makes more sense.
Listening now. It's a great song. It really is. Sad but uplifting while alternating between airy gentleness and seething abrasiveness. Jazzy fusion metal heads unite.
