I noticed that, and obviously, how can she wear a lapel pin when she has no lapel? But there was no way that wasn't going to end up on twitter or facebook.

I'dve thought someone would have found a way to put a flag on her, just to avoid the bullshit.

Also, there's a teacher in NC who's in trouble for standing on the flag while teaching his students the types of expression that are protected by the first amendment.

http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/21/health/te ... sson-trnd/

I think it's bullshit that he's in trouble, but I also think it's a teacher's responsibility to know his audience. If he doesn't know these kids well enough to know they're going to get pissed off, and share this with their parents and get him in trouble, he shouldn't have demonstrated it. There was nothing to be gained by stepping on the flag when he just could have given a list of things that people are allowed to do to the flag: step on it, tear it, burn it, pee on it, etc.

Maybe he should've issued a trigger warning.

I wonder why, in a free society, we must 'pledge our allegiance' to anyone or anything.

This was my reasoning in high school. It's pretty fucked up to make kids do stuff like that.

In high school I stood but I didn't say it and I didn't put my hand on my heart. People hated me after 9/11.

Not very.

But I was the big lefty in the class discussions saying invading Iraq is fucking stupid and that Bush/Cheney/Rumsfeld were leading us into perpetual war so therefor I hated America.

I wouldn't kill in defense of it no matter the circumstances, so I feel like they should be more upset at me about that.
