It's been a while since I've wanted to go to a concert (besides Die Antwoord, which sold out instantly ), but I think I'm gonna go to the Protomartyr show in Denver next week.

Yep. I'm gonna do this. Just bought tickets. Man does it feel great to be excited for a concert again. It's been years.

These days I get more excited to smoke a joint (vape some oil, technically) and listen to a good album.
I am old.
Me too, though substitute a glass of whiskey for the joint.
I think I'm getting close to swearing off most live shows, at least those at big venues. I so rarely have a good time.
The Cure show last week was the final straw. I love the band so much, and they played really well, but the environmental factors made it really difficult for me to focus on and enjoy what was happening on stage.

I'm kind of in the same boat. I've also seen so many shows it isn't exciting for me unless I've never seen the band, or it's been a long time and I'm so excited to see the band again that I don't care about the crowd.
Crowds out here aren't as bad as some of what you guys encounter but the tradeoff is that shows rarely have good crowds; usually people are just kind of listless.

One of the more disappointing shows I saw was Shellac. The band was phenomenal! But the crowd was listless, and the venue was SO HOT inside. I felt like I'd rather be home listening to their record, and I knew then that my days of getting excited to see a live band were fading into the rearview...

Anybody think their hearing is fucked from live shows? I was sort of disturbed by how my ears felt after seeing Dinosaur Jr the other week.
Dino Jr is one of the loudest club shows I've ever seen; you probably did some damage. I've worn ear plugs for years, never understood why people didn't do it. Anyway, it's not too late to take better care of your ear holes, verb.

I always bring plugs now too, though I don't always use them.
I often find it's not only volume that hurts, it can be what frequencies are prominent in the mix. I've felt ear pain after mixes that weren't hugely loud but had some really aggressive high end or midrange etc.
