I like Pam, Jim and Dwight more than their English counterparts based on that first episode.

The UK version is hilarious at times, but needlessly morose and condescending to the characters. Like a group of comedians who avoided office jobs their whole lives sat down and wrote out exactly how horrible they imagined it would be.

I've had a lot of office jobs. They are pretty much that bad.

Of course neither the US nor UK versions can hold a candle to the French Canadian one:

I remember talking to my wife about the UK version a year after we moved to the UK and how that series nailed so perfectly. In the office jobs I had (and hers) there were so many parallels and The Offioce pitched it exactly right. Depressing yes. Condescending I don't think so. I have met and worked with nearly every character there and I don't believe the show exaggerated at all.

The US version I have only seen a couple of episodes and maybe not even a whole episode in full. The tone didn't resonate with me as The UK version did. This may be cultural or due to my sensibilities.

Hmmm, maybe England and wherever joey is from are just way more depressing places than where I'm from.

For me, and this is just for me, I rank it number 3. ( This is for comedies.) Below All in the Family and Seinfeld.

The Office (US) is so much better than Seinfeld it's not even funny.

Peak Seinfeld episodes are so good.

I guess. Seems pretty overrated to me. But what do I know.

*goes back to watching Pitch Perfect*

I started a slow moving re-watch of this entire series starting Jan 2016. Almost a year later I'm on Season 8, the one with Robert California. I gotta say, I'm enjoying the later seasons more than I thought I would. I mean, seasons 1 through 4 were pretty flawless, and the show did go down a bit afterwards, but these episodes are better than I remember them. If anything, I think season 5 may be one of the biggest drop offs between seasons. With the secondary characters getting more time, and it not just being about the sad case of Michael Scott, the show moved on quite nicely. I was too harsh on it the first time around (after season 4).

So far I think my rankings may go something like:

S3
S4
S2
S1
S6
S7
S5
S8*

* Have not finished s8 or started the rewatch of s9.

And VEEP is in at number four.

It's Mr. Show With Bob & David/...With Bob & David (I'm combining the two shows)

Arrested Development's last season keeps it off my list
