But in reality NY Style and Chicago Style entirely different things. Sitting down for a dinner where you have no intention of doing anything but relaxing on the couch afterwards? Chicago style
Having a couple slices at an event or walking around town? New York all the way.
And i HATE the attempts at regionalization of every damned pizza difference. There is no such thing as Detroit Style. I dont care if you're using old oil pans to make them. Its just a square fucking pizza.
I love this. Location, company, weather are all hugely important when making food choices. I often share an anecdote that I hate a buttery, oaky Chardonnay, but if I'm drinking with my grandmother then that's the first thing I'm going to order because it will make her happy.

Skitch, I also saw a "St. Louis style" pizza while in the Gateway city. So dumb. Something about some regional cheese they use that makes it that way, but nothing else was different.
Also, I've seen Kid Rock talk about Detroit style pizza.

The detroit syle is apparently the crunchy crust square pizzas. Supposedly originated here because of unused old manufacturing oil pans or some bullshit like that. This was a term I had not heard until about 3 years ago.

Ugi's is bad. The ingredients are all very low quality. The dough tastes like cardboard. I've grown to enjoy Argentine pizza after years of hating it (which is the same thing that happens to just every foreigner who lives here for a few years), but Ugi's was never good. It's just cheap.
Tonight we went to this new "New York-style" pizza place, with a lot of skepticism. We were pleasantly surprised by the fact that it was 1) actually "New York-style", 2) very good!
But of course it was morbidly overpriced, because Buenos Aires is a needlessly expensive city.

About five USD for a small-ish slice with pepperoni.
If they're going high-quality, they're probably importing canned tomatoes (and perhaps other stuff). I don't think $5 for a small slice of authentic NYC pizza in BA is a bad price, honestly. It'd be $3 in NYC, but then you'd also be bleeding money out yer asshole for every other thing you did on a daily basis in that city.
