This used to by far be my least favorite song on Vs. but as Vs. went up in my estimation I started to tolerate it more. Live though...I heard a boot from 93 today...it was AWESOME. In a live setting when Eddie is becoming totally unleashed it works. It was Black -> Blood -> Alive on that boot and that was very cool. I still dont think the album track is great though.
I do wonder though
Had this song never been written do you think we would have gotten 3 more years of Eddie being able to sing?
I always felt they had better material available to use than this (Hold On, a full-band version of Footsteps maybe, Hard To Imagine, Brother), but they (or maybe just Ed) wanted a harder-edged sound and wanted to put stuff like this out rather than something that was more melodic. Still not terrible, but it hasn't aged well and it would have probably made a better b-side.

I don't get why Matt shifted from playing the intro and chorus part on cymbals to the hi hat on recent tours:
I just listened to this for the express purpose of hearing a difference and couldn't spot it. Can you give me some specific times where the difference is noticeable?
The intro of the song (the first 15 seconds or so of each video) is probably the clearest part to hear the difference - watch both videos and note that Matt is playing different parts of his kit in each. Another good example is when they return back to that part after the first verse, about 28 seconds or so into both (roughly).
Around the time of the Backspacer tours Matt shifted to playing it the "new" way, which would seem to demand less effort on his part, and it takes a lot of the energy out of the song.

Blood is a weird one for me. My reactions to this song may be based on my mood more than any other PJ song. There are times when my mood is right and I absolutely love Blood, and there are times when it is one of the last songs in PJs catalog that I want to hear. Early live performances (ie when Ed's voice is in peak form) can be fantastic. It's probably a 3.5 star song for me.

This might have been discussed in the old thread, but does anyone know what Ed mumbles at the very end? The song kind of crashes to an end, Ed mumbles something, then there's that little outro.
