Just left the show.
I thought they played their asses off
Eddie and his over pronouncing was the only distraction
Lightning bolt was killer as an opener. Great choice. The set lights and the build up got everyone in the building excited despite not many recognizing it
Santans bed was dull
Education was great
There were two kids with their dads who were awesome to watch. Eddie had Mike extend the YL solo so he could run out to the middle of the arena and give them both tambourines
I like when he takes it down and plays some of the softer songs in the catalog, why would people have a problem with it? Its a long 3 hour show it can have some peaks in there, it doesnt have to be nonstop energy. I enjoyed him doing Footsteps, Future Days, etc in Brooklyn. He also sounds good on those songs. Then he usually brings the energy up before the encore ender. I dunno why people were praising the show two before this or whatever and not this one.
I like the acoustic first encores, but I wish Ed would scrap the covers entirely and limit himself to one "Vedder solo via PJ" songs. That's a great spot for "NAIS," "Parachutes," etc.
I thought people liked that Pearl Jam played basically all of their songs they ever recorded live? Isn't that one of the appeals of seeing them? You never know what you'll get. Its what separates them from many other bands. So I think all of their songs should make an appearance at some point barring something like Bugs that is infeasible.
And I like that little cool-down period where Ed sits down and sings acoustically.
Honestly I would watch a whole show like that, he sounds horrible on most of the loud songs, but he still can sing the soft ones.
Just Breathe is not a song Im a big fan of but I love Thumbing My way. I also like when he does covers, though I wish they'd do more new ones instead of the same old ones they always do (I hate that Rocking in the Free World they treat as one of their big songs...same with Baba O Riley. If they want to do classic rock anthems can they at least do unique ones?) But anyways I still have no problem with the covers. They do like 30 song setlists! It has time for slow songs and cover songs, and putting the slow songs at the beginning of the first encore is the PERFECT place to put them

On paper this setlist looks pretty uninspired. For me, only "Education," "Army Reserve," and "1/2 Full" stand out as something special as the rest seems pretty conventional. The sub-mediocre "Lightning Bolt" opener would have pissed me off.
That said, if they played their asses off and the crowd was good, I could see where it would be a fun show, regardless. I traveled from the West Coast to see a couple of shows and decided on Greenville and Hampton even though Lexington was on my birthday. I'm pretty happy with what I got.
Re: covers. Agreed. Too many. Would it kill them to try some new ones or play more from Binaural or Riot Act?
I think the show looks much better than the 4/21 show everybody praised for some reason. Also this one had better covers because I hate Crown of Thorns and wish they'd stop doing it...I know its a tribute but its just not a good song.

Agreed. I liked the little unplugged mini-set. I thought it complimented the rocking opening they started with. TBH I wasn't a huge fan of the setlist and didn't hear what I was hoping for, though
I did appreciate the energy. Esp Mike running laps around the band.
