Hershey show was decent, but the venue was very meh.

No doubt, but because it was such a small venue, it came with the usual perks that the other, bigger shows I witnessed did not:

- You could clearly hear what was going on.
- You could clearly see what was going on.

The show also had some rare features:

- An angry Eddie rant.
- The band was apparently very angry about something so they played like they meant it, despite being tired...something that rarely happens now.
- As far as that entire tour goes, it was one of the tighter shows...though all of the shows towards the end were good.
- The setlist is really good, IMO.

So even though there are obviously better shows that I could have/should have attended, I'm glad that I went to this one, because the others I saw sounded like someone playing a boombox in a huge cave.

I enjoyed the show too. I remember Ed saying something about the flashing girl during "Insignificance" (I think), then later when on the epic "mosquito bites" / "shitting on girls heads" rant.

This was my first PJ show and I remember having somewhat mixed reactions about it at the time. The whole rant left a bad taste in my mouth. I just went back and listened to it today and it was much better than I remembered. I think my mixed reactions came from the fact that they started an excellent early run with Last Exit > Animal > Do the Evolution but then totally killed the vibe by going to Help Help and Get Right with 2 of the next 3 songs. I like those songs but the placement just didn't work. Then they went to Small Town right after that, only the 8th song into the set. That was another momentum killer. Also, I thought Driven to Tears was an odd choice to cover and I had no idea what it was at the time. Of course, they mostly made up for all of that later with excellent versions of Immortality, Deep, Insignificance, RVM, Whipping (right after the mosquito bites rant, which was pretty awkward, but served as a great segue into that song), Glorified G, Crazy Mary (one of the few versions that I can really appreciate), and State of Love and Trust (topped off with Eddie's harmonica part which was my friend's harmonica. He threw it up on stage in the middle of the song and Eddie picked it up and started playing.)

Well, I love Help Help and Get Right, so I was thrilled to hear them and I thought the whole set was great. I'm not sure if it was common to see both of those songs in the same set, but I know it wasn't common to see both Insignificance and Grievance on that tour, both of which we got. I completely forgot about the harmonica solo in SOLAT!!! That was awesome, and probably another one-time-only event. The encore was too short but I think that had something to do with the assholes who ran the venue, who apparently gave the band a hard time. They aren't a "real" venue, but part of a privately-owned theme park, so they think their shit doesn't stink and they can make their own rules. Remember Sleater-Kinney complaining that there was no chocolate to be found anywhere backstage and thanking the staff for their "hospitality", and how angry Eddie seemed when he took the stage? That pretty much says it all, and set the odd tone for the show. The cops were also total cunts. I doubt they will ever be playing there again.

That's an interesting perspective. I suppose that's why Ed started off Last Exit with "F@$k this f@&king chocolate factory!"

Yes, which I did not notice at the show and was surprised to hear on the bootleg. I'm sure the foul mood that the venue staff put them in before the show had something to do with Eddie losing his shit with the mosquito bites girl, which most people who "criticize" the rant have no knowledge or perspective of.

Man I gotta say, listening to 6/29/03 show on Sirius XM radio (on a delay thanks to the web app)

I don't like Riot Act at all, it's like my least favorite album. I shouldn't like this show because of all the Riot Act and opening with Long Road, my least favorite opener. But dang this show is good!! Sounds better than the 2000 shows by a lot to me, and they've barely even done any hits.

You guys would probably love it because 15 songs in and they've only done one off Ten and one off Vs. (And six off Riot Act ugh). I like when they play the hits but they've just sounded great this show.

Wishlist and Not For You were really great.

Eddie just said the president should chop his head off to save us from himself.

Great Elderly Woman, I miss when Eddie could sing.

Elderly Woman -> Jeremy -> Blood to end set 1. I've never heard them close a set with Blood before, but I don't really like it. (Just like I don't like when they do DTE there)

If the encores are good this show will be really awesome.

Weirdly the boot seemed to skip or something, because they go right from Blood to Down, but the setlist online has Blood as the main setlist closer, then Arc -> Down to start encore 1

Im gonna trust the online setlist and if its true, I don't really like Black as the second song in Encore 1

Really bad Encore 1 IMO with Down -> Black -> Some improv thing that is just eddie singing nonsense over what basically is just the rockin in the free world riff -> Rearviewmirror.

Needed more songs and though Black was great I just did not like the randomness of those choices.

Amsterdam III that is. That was Angry Eddie indeed.
At Amsterdam II he talked how Soon Forget is about him.

Haven't heard much other shows as of yet. But well, the focal point of this tour was never going to be US politics. Bush became president in 2000. Riot Act was 2002. Give the man some time.

Notes: This mix, which is based on a mix I made for traveling back in 2003, is an attempt at highlighting both how amazing the 2003 tour was but also how great some of the less-talked about shows are. Indeed, with 24 shows represented, there's a lot to choose from. I never had the opportunity (or the desire) to listen to every show from this tour, but I've listened to at least 50 and these performances are the best of the best. You might be able to think of another version as good as one here, but you won't find one that is better for pretty much any of these songs. Enjoy. I spent a lot of time making this and I love the final product. Japan needed its own disc because those shows were so different from the rest of the tour. About 5 of these songs were incorporated into the original mix but they stood out like a sore thumb, so I decided to give the Japan shows their own disc. Enjoy!

My brain refuses to acknowledge that the singer of this tour is Eddie Vedder. But I really love his look and sound on this tour. There's something dangerous about it IDK. He just looks mean.

fyi, arc was purposely omitted from all the bootlegs of the shows it appeared on.
