Guys, once an album is certified by the RIAA anybody affiliated with the album or band can choose to purchase the physical award. They don't automatically provide them, nor do they do any real analysis when somebody comes forward ready to buy one.
Please note that the RIAA is unable to authenticate any existing physical plaque/award, but we can verify whether or not a title is certified. RIAA.com hosts a free searchable database listing all RIAA certifications dating back to 1958. RIAA does not limit the amount of plaques a music label or artist can create nor do we say how many plaques were produced (if any) for a particular project. Our role is to certify the title, and then the recipients are free to purchase authorized plaques from RIAA approved, licensed framing companies.
