What songs on Lightning Bolt would you like to have heard recorded for other albums? What should have been on Lightning Bolt?

Right Song/Wrong Album
Ten
Vs
Vitalogy
No Code
Yield
Binaural
Riot Act
Backspacer

Lightning Bolt is probably the only PJ record where I don't know that any song would have been improved by being on it. I think it's a very strong set of songs, but it has some of the blandest production on record that sucks the life out of some great tunes.

Getaway: should have been on Vs. That song should sound like Rearviewmirror, and the best part is that screeching outro that calls RVM to mind.

Mind Your Manners: Vs, Vitalogy, even S/T would have helped--the later two would have made the song much dirtier, and Vs. is simply the best production on any album for any song that is looking for ball kicking energy.

My Father's Son: The claustrophobic feel of Binaural would have helped this one, especially with its bridge that feels a little bit like rival.

Sirens: Obviously Ten, with the caveat that it would have been redundant because of Black.

Lightning Bolt: Although it would have been a bit too close to Given To Fly, this would have been great with the dynamics of the far inferior In Hiding

Infallible: Another one that would have been great on Binaural, though I'm not sure if the chorus would have worked.

Pendulum: The binaural choice is almost too obvious. Riot Act could have been interesting, since the album would play well with the uncertainty in the song.

Swallowed Whole: Yield, No Code, even in the Wild--this song really needed to breath, and the album version compresses it.

LTRP: I think the scratchier feel of S/T would be a good fit for this one, maybe playing the role that big wave has on the record. Would have fit in better with the other songs.

Sleeping By Myself: This might be the one song I think should stay on L-bolt, but it would work just as well on Yield

Yellow Moon: While I like the stately feel of the studio version, Riot Act would have given this a more organic feel

Future Days: The gentle tenderness of around the bend would have taken away some of the mawkishness of this song that turns people off.

While i think that the production was an improvement from BS, its true that some songs should sound different.
I agree with Getaway, the guitars have an urgency that speaks of RVM...imagine this song with the vs or maybe vitalogy sound...and yes, fathers son on Binaural!! Thats a very good one.

There is no way any producer could save Future days but maybe, just maybe...No Code.

I like that swap because SOS is one of the only redeeming things about Backspacer and Sleeping By Myself is a stain on an otherwise pretty decent Lightning Bolt album. BS and SBM can suck it.

I think Sleeping By Myself is one of the better songs on LB. Certainly better than half the album. I can see it on Backspacer though. However, since it could work on Backspacer, it seems like this is the song Mike was referring to when he said LB was a logical extension. So by that logic, Sleeping By Myself is a-ok where it is.
