Yeah, where the fuck is Bond? Anyway, MF, can you throw out a top 5 of the past few years so that I might venture past The Sword and Mastodon? It'd be much appreciated.

2012 was a pretty damn good year for hard rock and metal. I could maybe throw together another "homework" post if there is any interest in some of the stuff that came out last year.

The Metal Thread
I haven't heard much lately that has gotten me excited.
The newest sword album had some tasty riffs i enjoyed. i of course loved the new baroness album but that seemed almost more hard rock than metal (not that the sword album was confusing anyone for morbid angel)
I actually went backand was listening to the shrinbuilder album over the weekend. I still love that shit.
One album i missed last year was the newest neurosis. How was that?
i'm actually kind of disappointed by that Sword album. Warp Riders kicked so much ass but this one just misses the mark. haven't listened to the new Neurosis yet. i forgot that came out.

i actually felt the oppisite. I was actually disapointed in Warp Riders but really liked the new one. I really dig the Veals of Isis, Dying Earth, Execrator, and Eyes of the Storm witch a lot
I've really only been exploring metal for a few months and I have to say Warp Riders is probably the best album (of all genres) I have heard in about a year. Apocryphon doesn't even come close to it.

Seeing Apocryphon live helped me appreciate songs like Cloak of Feathers and especially Seven Sisters more. The song Apocryphon is a cool opener too. I thought the more "Swordy" songs like Eyes of the Stormwitch are pretty bland though.
