Goats' heads and nudity highlight video for group's first song in six years
By Kory Grow | August 5, 2014
Slipknot's video for "The Negative One," the masked headbangers' first new song in six years, presents a surrealistic nightmare in which a woman has a nervous breakdown over a basin containing two goats' heads in a dingy room. The group's percussionist, M. Shawn Crahan, who wears the clown mask, directed the clip, which also exists as a terrifying interactive website resembling a montage from a Saw movie.
The track will be featured on the band's as-yet-untitled fifth LP, which is set for release this fall. Not only will it be the band's first record in six years, but it will be the first since the death of bassist and songwriter Paul Gray in 2010 and the departure of drummer Joey Jordison this past December. In July, frontman Corey Taylor reported that the record was "98 percent done" and called making the record a "real positive experience."
Attendees of the group's upcoming Knotfest, a three-day festival that will take place in California this October, will receive a digital download of the record. Slipknot have said that they will play two concerts at the festival, and each performance will include a unique set list highlighting songs from the new album. Other performers on the fest include Anthrax, Danzig, Five Finger Death Punch, Black Label Society, Carcass, Killswitch Engage and Volbeat. Slipknot's DJ Sid will provide the soundtrack to the first night's VIP party, with the festival including a zip line, carnival rides, drum circles, "pillars of fire," "freaks," stilt walkers and fire breathers.
These guys. No one does quite what they do. I love it -- sounds like classic 'Knot to my ears. Sorry to see Joey depart. Interested to know more about the new drummer. The interwebs tells me it's the son of Max Weinberg!

Slipknot Host Asylum Rave in Terrifying 'The Devil In I' Video The Iowa masked metal act unveil latest video from upcoming '.5: The Gray Chapter' album
Next month, masked metallers Slipknot will end their six-year hiatus with the release of their fifth LP .5: The Gray Chapter on October 21st. On Friday, the Iowa band premiered the video for the single "The Devil In I," meant to symbolize the bleak resurrection of Slipknot following some recent personal tragedy. "The Devil In I" is what would happen if a mental asylum ever hosted a rave, with a healthy dose of cannibalism and other gruesome imagery added before one masked member self-immolates and hangs himself in an elevator shaft. Slipknot percussionist Shawn "Clown" Crahan directed the video.
.5: The Gray Chapter is Slipknot's first studio album in six years and the first they've recorded since bassist Paul Gray died of a drug overdose in 2010. "It was almost like getting to know each other again," singer Corey Taylor recently said about Gray's death. "We were all kind of grieving in our own way and dealing with things in our own way. And knowing that we had to be healthy to go in – we had to be creative to go in – and knowing that we were gonna have to fill this huge void, we just kind of took it upon ourselves to make up for that emptiness by being a little bit of Paul. Like we were all a little bit of Paul in our own way." Drummer Joey Jordison also parted ways with Slipknot prior to the recording of .5: The Gray Chapter.
As Rolling Stone previously reported, Slipknot will embark on the massive Prepare for Hell tour this fall where they'll be joined by Korn and King 810. The trek kicks off with the October 25th & 26th Knotfest event in San Bernardino, California that boasts a metalhead's dream lineup: Slipknot along with Danzig, Atreyu, Anthrax, Five Finger Death Punch, Volbeat, Black Label Society, Testament, Napalm Death and many more. The full Knotfest lineup will be announced September 22nd. Fans that buy tickets to Knotfest or any Prepare for Hell tour date will receive a free digital copy of .5: The Gray Chapter on October 20th.
