The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.

Really dig Dominion and Settlers of Catan. Played 3 games of Settlers last night (won 2 of them)
M_D, do you just have the traditional Dominion set or did you get any expansion packs? Some of the expansion packs are really good.
We just got Dominion a couple of weeks ago. Still on the traditional set, but we have already started researching expansion packs. Do you have a recommendation? I love how every game is different.
Have you ever played the 5-6 player expansion of Settlers? Makes the game more enjoyable to me because you can build every turn.
The traditional set is great. I recommend Hinterlands, Dark Ages, and Prosperity to add on though. I also tried Seaside but I never go back and play it.
At this point my friends and I keep a randomizer deck with just our favorite cards from each set and use that to choose our setup.
I haven't played the Settlers expansion pack though, will look into it. I actually prefer playing Settlers with 3 people instead of 4, leaves more room on the board.
I can see us using the Randomizer cards a lot more once we've played a few games with every card. So far I prefer the action cards that allow you to junk cards or upgrade them for better ones.
The 5-6 play expansion adds more tiles so it plays more like a 3-4 person game. The only difference is you have more trade partners and you can build on every turn.
Even with the expansions you still only play with 10 stacks of cards on the table.
Right, which makes the game a bit more consistent or fair than a game like Magic where everyone has their own deck.
There is a variation that is even better than the original. Not sure of the name, but it is an individual game.
Best played with 4 people. Start out with each player receiving 13 cards. Each player makes a bid like in spades. The dealer gets the last bid. The total amount of bids cannot equal 13.
There are three catches that differentiate the game from spades. A met bid is worth 10 plus the amount you bid (ex. 13; if you met your bid of 3). If you exceed your bid you only get the amount you bid (ex. 3; if you get 4 tricks instead of your bid of 3). Since the total bids cannot equal 13 someone always loses each round.
The second catch is the trump suite changes each game. During the shuffle you split the deck and the card at the bottom of the split determines the trump suite.
The third and final catch is that each player loses a card every round until the final round consists of everyone only has one card. You are forced to play percentages before making your bid, especially when it gets to the last few rounds. You may only have the 9 or 10 of the trump suite but it could be the highest card out there.

my wife and I play backgammon a lot
my wife and I found a nice old set hidden in our closet recently. Neither of us had ever played, so we googled how and went at it. It's become a late night ritual for us.
I've been meaning to get that Cards against humanity game since like Christmas
We usually reserve this for Christmas or Thanksgiving, and my mother always ends up reading a card that has the word "cuntblaster" on it or something.
It's a fun game to play with a big group (especially if a few people in the group have never played before), but it's not something you want to play too often.

Yeah, even with expansion packs the cards get old after a while.

My brother keeps ordering all the expansion packs, so there's some new stuff every time. Luckily, still, I'd say we do one big game per year.
