Thanks for doing this. I know it's probably a lot of work but I find it very interesting. And I think it could add some insight on RM's "true" feelings about certain albums, more so than a "rank the albums" thread.
A lot of movement in this round, with a brand-new #1! There were quite a few strong b-sides in this round, while Vitalogy really had nothing going for it besides "Pry, To." Yield registers its first loss...but it was "Hummus." I'm not even ranking Demos/Leaks + Live Covers anymore, and they'll be completely off these lists next round (neither have any left )
This was fascinating--except for the #1 spot (which "Yield" still holds), everything else moved today. Vs. and S/T had the biggest rises (3 spots each) and poor Backspacer dropped the furthers (4 spots). Yield has been #1 in three straight rankings, but looks like it has some stiff competition in the first part of Round 2!

when something was an xmas single and a lost dog how are you counting it?
I think I addressed this earlier in the thread, but only songs that were first officially released on LD count as LD. So: All Night, Sad, Hitchhiker, Don't Gimme No Lip, In The Moonlight, Education, Hold On, Fatal, Brother, Bee Girl, and 4/20/02.
I guess you could argue "Brother" could've been listed as a demo/leak or an "other," too.

Do we have different versions of Brother in this tournament? I'm too lazy to look.

After the first set of matches in Round 2:
Total Wins
Quote:
1. Yield - 11 2. B-Sides - 10 3. Vs - 9 3. Vitalogy - 9 4. No Code - 8 4. Binaural - 8 5. Riot Act - 7 6. Ten - 6 6. Pearl Jam - 6 6. Lightning Bolt - 6 6. Christmas Singles - 6 6. Other - 6 7. Backspacer - 5 8. Lost Dogs - 4
Yield had a big set, and B-Sides stayed consistent.
Win Percentage:
Quote:
1. Yield - 11-2-0.846 2. Vs - 9-2-0.818 3. B-Sides - 10-4-0.714 4. Binaural - 8-4-0.667 5. Vitalogy - 9-5-0.643 6. Ten - 6-4-0.600 7. Pearl Jam - 6-4-0.600 8. No Code - 8-6-0.571 9. Lightning Bolt - 6-5-0.545 10. Riot Act - 7-6-0.538 11. Backspacer - 5-5-0.500 12. Lost Dogs - 4-8-0.333 13. Other - 6-14-0.300 14. Christmas Singles - 6-15-0.286
Even with one loss, Yield stays strong at the top.
Weighted Wins:
Quote:
1. Yield - 7 2. Vs - 6 3. B-Sides - 5.5 4. Vitalogy - 5 5. Binaural - 4.5 5. No Code - 4.5 6. Other - 4.5 7. Riot Act - 4 8. Ten - 3.5 8. Lightning Bolt - 3.5 9. Pearl Jam - 3 9. Christmas Singles - 3 10. Backspacer - 2.5 11. Lost Dogs - 2
A new category. Since so many of the Round 1 matches were blowouts, these rankings assign 1 point to wins and Round 2 and after, and just 1/2 a point for Round 1 wins. This will put some more distance between the albums that did well in Round 1 but are knocked out quickly after that.

I checked. Sadly .. no instrumental Brother in this tournament.

Will you continue to weight? Like half point steps?
I don't think so, I figure from this point out there will be many more competitive matches. There have already been three matchups in Round 2 decided by 5 votes or fewer.

Actually, why not? I created a ranking system called "Super-Weighted Wins," in which each rounds' points total is increased by a .5 step (so Round 1=W*.5, Round 2=W*1, Round 3=W*1.5, etc.). This won't really make a difference until after Round 3, however, so I won't post it until then.

I'm not going to post in-depth standings until after the next round is over; it's just tons of typing! But once Round 2 is over, each album will get a nice update and I'll comment on its progress/regression. But for now, here's the raw standings:
Total Wins:
Quote:
Yield - 12 Binaural - 12 Vitalogy - 11 No Code - 10 B-Sides - 10 Vs - 9 Riot Act - 8 Pearl Jam - 8 Other - 8 Ten - 6 Lightning Bolt - 6 Lost Dogs - 6 Christmas Singles - 6 Backspacer - 5
Win Percentage:
Quote:
Yield - 12-3-0.800 Binaural - 12-4-0.750 Vs - 9-4-0.692 Vitalogy - 11-5-0.688 No Code - 10-6-0.625 B-Sides - 10-6-0.625 Pearl Jam - 8-5-0.615 Ten - 6-5-0.545 Riot Act - 8-8-0.500 Lightning Bolt - 6-7-0.462 Lost Dogs - 6-9-0.400 Backspacer - 5-8-0.385 Other - 8-14-0.364 Christmas Singles - 6-16-0.273

So far it seems the general RM consensus is that Vs thru Binaural is the strongest run in PJ's catalog, with Yield and Binaural head and shoulders above the rest... Ten, Riot Act and S/T are consistently lumped together in the 2nd tier of PJ albums... Backspacer is undeniably the caboose... and our new friend LB sits somewhere between the respectable 2nd tier cluster and the ostracized butt-end. Sounds about right to me.

I think it'll be interesting to see which albums fall out of the running next. It'd be fascinating if Ten dropped out before Avacado or Riot Act. I think the Final 4 may end up encompassing just two albums.

Consider this unofficial, because it's a lot trickier to keep track of...but here are album vs. album records!
Reading it goes like this:
[Album From First Column] is xx-xx against [Album From First Row].
So Ten is 4-1 against Binaural. Lightning Bolt is 0-4 against Vitalogy. And so on.
There are some interesting bits buried in here. Yield and Vitalogy are tied for the most wins, but really neither of them have had many matches against the "Vitalogy through Binaural" set that has dominated so far. And even though its win total isn't impressive, Ten has been a Binaural killer so far.
