You guys are forgetting some Ten demos like Black or Evenflow that are considerably different than the album version. Also, there is an Otherside demo with Jeff on vocals. The Bad Radio version of Betterman should be in here?

While I was trying to internet up this "3 song sampler" Alive version (which, btw, wtf is that?), I came across something I've never seen before.

Anyone heard this version of Alive? Clocks in at 4:55 vs the album length of 5:41. Looks like this compilation was released in March '92.

http://www.allmusic.com/album/release/stanley-son-of-theodore-yet-another-alternative-music-sampler-mr0000025145

I just listened to the sample of the 4:55 version online and it appears to just be the RKCNDY live version (1991-08-03) from the Alive video - let me know if you don't have it and would like a FLAC hook up

Also - a quick question about not using FLAC for this: does that mean when you edited a track for length, volume, fade-in etc you started with an mp3, made changes, and then saved it as an mp3?

If so then this is exactly why people don't like mp3 - any saving results in a re-encode, meaning you are downgrading the quality further by making an mp3 of an mp3.

Not to sound ungrateful for your great work here, just wanted to know the linage :peace:

Think of making/saving mp3s as making photocopies. If you have a photocopied document, make some changes to it by hand, and then photocopy it again - you're going to lose quality. Lossless is like having the original document digitally, which you can make changes to while maintaining the quality of the original. People can then always hit 'print' (i.e. convert) and make themselves a photocopy/mp3, but at least then they're doing so from the original version, not a photocopy of a photocopy :)

Yes, I get that. Where I had flacs, I edited the flac and decoded to mp3. Many of the released studio tracks I only have as mp3, so that could not be done. I would guess there are 20-30 tracks across the set that were done that way, ie they needed some type of edit, and I had to work with mp3.

Any suggestions for a free flac to mp3 converter? Would like to get 320kbps quality all the ones I see only do 128kbps.

dBPoweramp is great, full control over bitrate/quality, integration with rightclick button etc. I think it's free, even if not all the codecs are...

Nope, it used to be but now you have to pay for it. Well worth it, if you ask me.

Okay, I'm going to do some serious work on this today. I have some files called the Vs. rough mixes and the vitalogy rough mixes. Does anyone know if these are legit, or whether or not they're just scuffed up versions of the studio tracks. I know the Ten rough mixes are actually different.

My file is corrupted. Is the version of Crazy mary in the vs. box set the same length as the sweet relief version, or is it shortened?

I've listened to a few and I'm just not sure. I kinda suspect they're not really different, but I'd like a better set of ears to confirm

Although there is also a whipping listed with the Vs. demos that does sound a bit different from the Vitalogy version (with a drum countdown)

Is stone's The King demo an early even flow, or a separate song?

I could also use a check on whether or not the Holiday single and LD versions of strangest tribe are different? I hear the same thing but someone else said they are slightly different. Break the tie!
