Perhaps it comes back to that sense of unintellectualised abandon I so enjoy about Vs: I still hear a faint reminder of that in those songs, a willingness to indulge in the cathartic joy of loud rock n' roll for its own sake, that seems otherwise largely absent from their recent work.

Except "Let the Records Play" isn't particularly loud or cathartic, it's a plodding middle-of-the-road blues lite. With an incredibly irritating chorus.

I guess I don't like rock and roll for its own sake.

It would actually be pretty vastly improved by being really loud. I mean, the fact that it is really hard to appreciate in the first place is worse because the guitars are so low in the mix. It should sound like T. Rex but it sounds like Jools Holland's boogie-woogie orchestra instead.

I don't like Muse, but at least their 'bluesy' songs are covered in thick walls of guitar.
