Matt is not enthusiastic about Pearl Jam's music, in spite of being a kid on too many sweets in general. I'm not going to have yet another conversation about it, it's just what I think. He seems bored in Pearl Jam, and thoroughly excited by Soundgarden. Jack Irons might've been a quieter person than Matt, but he sure as hell enjoyed playing Pearl Jam's music. You could tell just by listening.

speaking of Jack, i thought he wasnt up for touring and stuff anymore, why is he in the wallflowers now?

Maybe you're right. He didn't stay in Pearl Jam after the interest waned. Good on him. Matt will, though, because of the money.

Brave words.

Dave A is now the drummer In Peter Cornells band. Yes brother of that sham Chris.
That's a shame. Nobody could outdo dave for enthusiasm. Or hair.

This is true. Listening to him play the drums for his new stuff is pretty disheartening.

People people. Fuck! If you ever...EVER get in a situation where the blame is going to lay in Boom's hands or Matts (figuratively and literally), take Matt's side for the love of all that is living and holy. I think Boom is a great guy (probably maybe), but he is not good at his craft. Matt is. He isn't shielded from making a mistake mind you..everyone does it. But come on. Give your heads a shake.

I dunno. I'm not a drummer, so as far as technical, I can't say a word, but I like Matt in the band and I like what he's done. Dave was great for what Pearl Jam was. Matt is best for what Pearl Jam is. Fuck!

So what you're saying is, I don't know anything about drumming, but I love Matt and I don't like Boom, so give the guy a break? OK.

Oh and..I said I'm not a drummer and can't speak from the technical. But that doesn't mean I can't tell if someone is doing it well..no?? Anyway..neither here nor there but I DO play the piano and Boom doesn't necessarily excel at the craft.

It's not as though Matt's playing thunderous fills through the intro, he's just sign-posting the tempo so the whole band is on the same page (which is a pretty common practice for live bands). Boom didn't get the memo, evidently.

That said, I agree that Boom's tempo is probably more appropriate for the song. However, if the band generally have Matt playing that time-keeping role (and they do), it's really Boom's job to follow Matt's lead.

Wouldn't the whole band be playing to the same metronome?

I think we can all agree that Matt is a better musician than Boom.

I mean, I'm no drummer so I'm sure my opinion will be null and void in here, but the dude has been a drummer twice as long as any of the other guys. He is the main PJ drummer out of all of them. This is Pearl Jam. And I think he adds a certain element to the band that the other guys didn't. MATT IS A GOOD GUY, TEAM.
