I got word on Friday that a friend had passed. John M was a former RMer who I think stopped posting long before I joined; no idea what his username was.
He and I connected around these “cockage tapes,” with John offering a good amount of the tracks for sharing, as well as key insights on the process for how some of this stuff leaked out. I gave him edit access to the spreadsheet and we initially started communicating around that project.
At some point our communications became more personal, and we started zooming fairly regularly, as often as once a week sometimes, for the past year-plus. John was in the midst of his third go-around with cancer; he had previously lost one leg to the disease, and often joked about his “stump.”
John lived with his lovely and supportive wife in the Midwest. He enjoyed collecting vinyl, and he was transitioning from prior work in teen ministry and public school education to secular life coaching when we first connected, but the return of his cancer put a halt to that in a professional capacity; I think he just enjoyed talking with people and sharing experiences.
John was an astonishingly positive person, never once not demonstrating to me his capacity for gratitude and acceptance with the disease that upended his life for the better part of a decade. He had great taste in music and he hated to eat vegetables. Our talks very often compelled me to be a more patient father and husband.
Try to think of him if you’re ever listening to these tapes that trickle out on occasion. He has been an integral part of their distribution from Dave A’s storage locker to your ears.

Sorry to hear it Trag. Sounds like John was both a good person and a good friend.

This is material we've already heard; it's all on the first page, but this is a compilation made by a fan. I don't know, maybe it might be refreshing to listen to it this way around this time
