Its a disease and they're all freaks.

That thread was Fucking awful when it was happening. Going through it again? No thanks.

You entered "Fucking" into your phone's dictionary with a capital F, didn't you?

I can't decide if the lightning bolt/future days/mym/sirens/artwork reveal threads should be included.

The artwork reveal in particular was initially carved out of the main thread.

So many memories...

They should just start letting fans into the studio. That wouldn't be entitled at all, wouldn't it? We can comment on riffs, and suggest using echos and delays to make a song "murkier" or "darker". We could also hold final veto on how long a song should be, when a fade out is used, cause we're the fans and we are their clients and they wouldn't be anywehre without us. Mixing decisions need to be done using RM polls. And then tracklisting, oh man they could just fly us all in for that meeting. We could be the board of directors. Yeah, cause we are shareholders in this band, right, RIGHT?

A Day in the Life of RM in Three Acts.

1: Stip says something insane whispered to him by some impossibly absurd horror from the void, in defense of Backspacer. The Old Gods, long thought frozen in the depths of the cosmos, are stirring.

2. The terrified masses, driven to a frothing rage by curses spat from The Beast's now tentacled mouth, attack in a vain attempt to cast out the demon. Meanwhile, the chorus sings "I kinda like The Fixer", thus breaking the seventh seal.

3. The horrifying truth of our pointless existence becomes that much clearer, and, as one, we step farther out on to the ledge...

I want this to be real. And I want this to be a song with lyrics by Mike.

The sun at night
Where does it go?
You were so bright
But now I can't see you
So much darkness
Do you choose to leave?
Maybe the moon makes you go
Where are you, Mr. Sun?
Run into the rain my friend
Be a planetary light again
I miss you, sun at night

I can. Everything pre-S/T. It all depends on what you mean by atmosphere.

Tuolumne wrote:
This isn't NIN Grizzly Bear or anything. I've seen this band as a part of the sweaty beer chugging variety and less of the chin stroking kind.

Some of the fans are "a part of the sweaty beer chugging variety", but I don't think you can reduce PJ down to that. You must know that most of their mid-career stuff is more intelligent. Oh yeah, and forget NIN. They haven't been atmospheric since... I don't know when. It's all shtick now.

I think pearl jam was very successful with atmospheric songs
Atmospheric is when the music sucks you in to a place where you belong
With brick walking and an increase in urgency
The space for us to enter and breathe has been purged for me
Immoratalities, present tenses, slight of hands an nothing as it seems
Since 2003 we have yearned to see
A band that had once opened the space for us to roam
Has replaced that china with styrofoam
Take these recent leaks to help you believe
It's not about there completeness or quality
But the sound oh the sound
That's the place they need to be.

NIN is another thread
But I disagree about the shtick
NIN back from the dead
Trent Reznors craft always does the trick

If nothing is everything I'll have it all.

he's gotcha there, jambi.

You think you've got me
You think you've won
You cannot give me the slip
From a song on permaskip

Jambi, I want to be with you all of the time
All day and all of the night
I've really got you
I've really got you
Have the Pearl Jams covered this yet?
That they have, on this I'd bet.
But obviously I would not know
Without the objective data to tell me so.

Your rhymes' of reason and unshackled by time
It's obvious that you can see
It's a place of subejetiviiiityyyyy

Yeah yeah yeah yeah
Aw-huh aw-huh aw-huh
Fight to get it back again
And become a rock and roll stuh.
Anyone could've done this
In our cult of Pearl Jamitis
But we were all too busy
Kissin' the arse of Thin Lizzy.

Lightning Bolt Lightning strike
Friday was void of harmless might
Our crew was quick but our crew was light
Lightning Bolt Lightning lightning striiiike

Lightning bolt lightning flash
When pearl Jam fails and songs dont belong
Harmless is their to blame Matt Cameron
Lightning bolt lightning linghtnnning Flasaaash

It's all about the money
It's all about the mooneey yeah hah.

Now my voice is weary and has fatigued from rhyme
My day must begin, I must leave RM for some time
The weekend sun rising to the heights of the sky
For the moment I must say goodbye.

A thought just occurred to me... bare with me (or skip)

When S/T was released, my son was 1. He had a habit of waking up around 5:30 in the morning for no particular reason. I would put him in the stroller and we'd be out the door, with Avocado blasting away on my headphones. This became almost like a morning ritual for us. That whole summer was defined by stroller walks and Pearl Jam.

When Backspacer was released, my son was 4 and my daughter was 1. I remember it clear as day. My CD arrived in the mail the day before we set out for vacation in Outer Banks, NC. My daughter also had the unfortunate habit of waking up uncomfortably early in the morning. But at least for this one week, I embraced it. I would strap her into a baby bjorn and grab my headphones. We would take long walks on the beach while I listened to Backspacer over and over again. It's the only memory I have of the Outer Banks. When I listen to BS now I can still smell salt in the air.

When LB is released, my son will be 7 and my daughter will be 4. Now here's the crazy thing. There will be no strollers, no diapers, no early morning risers. Instead, I'll be dancing in the living room with my children. My daughter will yell, "Dad, I want it louder!". My son will be jumping off the couch with his plastic toy guitar. That's just wild.

The point is that, no matter what, PJ is one of those few constants in my life by which I can measure various points. The last few albums weren't life changing records in the way that Ten and Vs. completely altered the path of an angry and confused teenage boy back in the day, and I don't expect LB to be something that powerful either, but they still mark general milestones for my life. Ask me to describe what I was doing when the last Radiohead album came out, or the last Flaming Lips album, or the last Walkmen record (these are all bands that I love btw) and I might only have a few vague memories. But PJ is different. I don't really understand why or how but they just are. That's pretty cool.

If you assign me a chunk of the thread, I'll go through it. My sleep schedule is broken, so I'll have plenty of time to comb through things over the next few days.

Good point. We're going to need a second team to go over each chunk, then compare.

When we've compiled, say, the 100 best posts, somebody should make a YouTube video with each post zooming into the foreground in slow motion while Future Days plays.
