I think I'm going to start using the running track at the high school on weekends. I used it on Sunday and, although I did only two miles, I went very fast (I flew like the wind).
I think it'd be more boring for a long run than on the road, but if I'm trying to go fast for short distances I think it could be good

Yeah I could never do that on longer runs, but I do see the benefit for that length.
D*mn! I’ve only been faster than that a few times at two miles, but those were in races with adrenaline pumping. Third mile sucked butt in response of course.

There seems to be dwindling options for a bare bones running shoe experience these days, but I managed to pick up a pair of last year's kinvaras for less than $100.
Low stack, low drop, lightweight upper. The local legends on strava can keep their carbon plates. I'm racing on pure moxie here.

I've been wearing Lems Primal Pursuit almost exclusively. Zero drop and a wide toe box. Maybe not the most glorious running shoe, but I've been happy with it
I feel like i've lost some speed, or lost endurance when i'm going faster. So today I decided to do two casual miles around a 10:00 pace, then hopefully run the third mile strongly at around 8:45ish. Unfortunately the first two miles were more taxing than I expected, and I ran the third mile at 9:10. I had to walk a few short times during it, but probably could have turned it up a notch more at the end.
