The Coens have never made a bad movie (aside from Ladykillers). It's just a matter of preference which ones you like most.

I honestly don’t even think it’s bad. It’s entertaining enough, just suffers greatly when compared to the rest of their work.

All the simpletons trash Lady Killers. That movie straight up rules. Hanks in unhinged and Simmons is right behind.

It's mid-tier Soderbergh.

True Grit was good, just not as good as the original.

i don't think i can watch something with that title. I get a feeling of visceral disgust when I see it.

I remember really digging it, but it was a long time ago. I’m down for a rewatch

I'm about an hour in and it's pretty grand. I really don't know anything about T.E. Lawrence so this is all pretty interesting. I've also been doing some internet research and it turns out he was probably gay too. Fascinating character. This thing is nearly 4 hours long. Gonna have to finish it tomorrow.

got about an hr and a half left... some of the visuals are really great, but a lot of the dialogue and tone feels off.. probably because it's from 1962.. i have a hard time getting into old movies and this is no exception; i don't love it and frankly don't get the hype.. I get why this was quite the spectacle when it was released but not sure it holds up so great now

For instance, he's standing on the roof of a train they just derailed and took over, he gets shot by a pistol on the shoulder and falls onto the ground from about 15 feet. When he lands it's as light as if on a soft mattress. Then, for a moment he's in shock, looking at where he was shot in the shoulder and is grunting and shivering in pain. A moment later he's just walking around as if there's no pain at all. And the makeup is weird; they use too many bright colors on faces. Just so many things add up for this to be an inconsistent, weird experience.

Yes

Absolutely.

I think about Mr. Pocket almost every single day of my life.

Also the G rating doesn’t help. It’s full of battle scenes you would think they could at least hint at a little more violence than they do. I just don’t see how this holds up for people. Like I said I can see how beautiful many of the shots are but for me that’s virtually its sole redeeming quality. But if I’m watching something just for that I would watch planet Earth

I love classic movies, although like with new ones, there are good and bad movies. I think that sometimes a movie from the 40s or 50s can feel timeless, and one from the 70s can feel outdated, it all depends.

However, Lawrence of Arabia is a 10/10 or five out of five stars. Probably seen it 4-5 times. Loved it every time.

Been watching some Norwegian classics. Don’t really post about them here. Gotten to 1961. The best of the best are great classics, but the standard drops quite a bit when you dive into it. Hollywood was further ahead in those days, then they are now.
