Kendrick Lamar pre-order is $50
$45 is pretty standard anymore
For a double LP with heavy packaging, it's not unheard of, but I usually balk at those unless it's super limited.
my dudes, this is $49, not $45
I have paid $50 for some super-limited double LPs (plus tax!). I dunno what the KL is like, but I wouldn't pay that much for something being widely released.

I haven’t read anything special about it, that’s just the regular black version. Then there are at least 4 color variants I’ve already seen. Not that I necessarily care, I’m not getting it and don’t care if people wanna pay that. And like you said, there have been special edition albums, or rare older albums, that I’ve paid close to that. But not just a regular album off the shelf at Target.

My life has been kinda weird recently. I have 3 separate albums that I've gotten since early May and haven't managed to sit down and listen to any single one of them.
Frightened Rabbit - Pedestrian Verse Pixies - Wave of Mutilation (Best of) PJ - Live on 2 Legs

I listened to the My Morning Jacket (really Jim James solo) release from Record Store Day, which is basically James alone acoustic in the studio when members of the band had gotten sick. It’s all solo acoustic performances from the MMJ self titled album from last year. Surprised by how much I liked it, and how well the songs held up without the bells and whistles that were great but seemed like these songs’ anchors.

As much as i want many of the releases and re releases that are our there, i think my days of buying new are about done. I can’t justify paying a minimum of $30 for a 11 song record. I’ve got some great stores in the area that keep a nice rotation of used, so I’ll see you guys in the used bins.

This has been my strategy for about 2-3 years or so; I'm sure if I searched back through this thread, I can find the moment I made the switch. Besides limited releases like Record Store Day and the PJ vault releases, I haven't bought anything new on day 1 in quite a while. I basically keep an eye on new releases and revisit them in 3-4 months when a price drop happens, and every 2 months or so Newbury Comics does a 20% off sale, and that drops basically everything to a reasonable price.
In all that time, there's been only a handful of things I've "missed"--they're either things that are so outlandishly expensive from the start that I can't afford them (like the Phish Clifford Ball box set, which retailed for like $375), or releases that become inexplicably expensive after a few months (like the Alice in Chains Facelift release from a few years ago--for some reason it went out of print again and now sells for like $70).

Any word on if we’ll see a big vinyl sale for Prime Day?
Nothing major I’d assume. The best big box sale is usually Target’s Buy 2 Get 3 sale. And then Amazon will match it. I’ll post it the best time it happens. Usually twice a year.

Oh yeah, that Amazon 2-for-3 deal last year was awesome.

Im in Amsterdam now, and most of the record stores kinda suck. They all have this super expensive boots for albums like Nevermind or Gish. They look awful, cant believe people actually buy them.
