Def Leppard does absolutely nothing for me. I like 80s metal, even the super commercial stuff, but Def Leppard is just boring - the riffs are plodding and the hooks aren’t particularly catchy. And if you asked me to say something good about their rhythm section, I’d be stumped.

I just saw Sonic youth on an episode of Gossip Girl while my wife was watching it. We'd all give PJ so much shit for being on a show like Gossip Girl.
Yes. We call that the rampant double standard. For Pearl Jam we yell PRAMG. For Sonic Youth, we say oh how great they are exposing “real music” to these kids.

My friend went to see Phoebe Bridgers this week. She sent me a few videos. Everybody in the audience was singing along loudly to every word of every song, even the very quiet ones.
That got me thinking... that's a little weird, right? Like I get going to a concert and belting your lungs out during the big singalong chorus when the singer motions at the audience. It's a fun, cathartic thing. But every word of every song? What's the point of seeing a performer live if you're going to cover up their singing with your own? Aren't you there because you enjoy their singing, their performance?
Then it got me thinking that what you end up paying for is to have this kind of collective karaoke experience in the singer's presence. And I started to think about why this is more accepted in some genres than others, and whether that says something about each genre's fans and what they feel entitled to. And then I realized the edible had kicked in and I was thinking about it too hard. Then I started watching old episodes of Kitchen Nightmares

I think this also goes for the standing/sitting continuum. It was appropriate to sit during most of last nights show despite it being in a football stadium, and we were annoyed with people needlessly standing, yet I have been to 23 Pearl Jam shows in all areas of the buildings and the whole place stands the whole time.

It made me think of that video of Lorde from a few years ago that went semi-viral. She's doing an acapella song and the crowd is singing awkwardly along and she shushes them. I was like "good for her" but everyone gave her a lot of shit for it
