Plenty of delicious schnitzel and wurst last week, but also some good local stuff. I can’t stop thinking about a coffee shop lunch we had in Hallstatt. It was a simple grain toast with pork belly and cheese on it, but it tasted so fresh and incredible.
Yeah all the food in the Austrian/German regions is like that in my experience too. Less preservatives and shit so has to be fresh.

It’s not overrated, it’s fucking delicious when done right. The problem is that it became a go-to menu item for mediocre restaurants to convey gastropub trendiness, and it wound up on every menu, in varying degrees of execution.
But good lord let’s not say things like “pork belly is overrated.” It’s 3/4” succulent bacon. The platonic ideal of pork belly is properly rated as godly.

On our air France flight from Vienna to Paris we were offered a choice of sandwiches. I chose the smoked salmon. But it was a smoked salmon and egg salad sandwich. You know what? It worked!

my wife has been regaling me with descriptions of the extravagant french cuisine she's enjoying on the company dime while in paris.
the trade off is nice i bet (getting to place to yourself after the kid is in bed). i used to LOVE that time by myself when my wife traveled.
Not to mention I can make certain delicious foods myself that she doesn’t really go for. Tonight, in honor of the warm temps, will be brats on the grill.
