In the summer of 1990 Eddie Vedder received the Stone Gossard demo tape through his friend Jack Irons. In a couple of months he was living in Seattle and recording 'Ten'. Before he was handed that tape he was a struggling musician, surfer and gas station employee in San Diego. This compilation reflects those times in San Diego. Selected from the best available sources and restored and remastered by a pro this now sounds better than ever before. Some of these tracks are not as bad as we sometimes think they are. Especially the ones Ed wrote. Betterman was originally written during these years. And it makes you wonder what PJ or the Earthlings could have done with 'Crossroads', 'Believe you me', 'Homeless' or 'Just a Book'. In a strange way 'Earthling' shows some of his 80s influences in the same way as heard on these tracks. Those tracks show great potential whereas other tracks at best show a musician searching for his voice, style and potential. On this compilation you can find some covers, some home demos and demos from his bands 'Bad Radio' and 'Indian Style''. The latter includes Brad Wilk of RATM fame on drums!

Crossroads would fit in his current set for sure. I'm not sure if I ever heard Homeless before its good. What? is cool too. I'm surprised he didn't get signed just based on Betterman even here it screams hit.
