The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
I beat the game today. I’m not going to rehash what others have already said. I thought the dark environments, dim light and use of lighting sources to be superb. Probably the best example in a video game yet. Voice acting was top notch. I had no issues with any of the adult themes. That being said, I understand why the diverse reviews of this game exist - many young or conservative players probably don’t want themes of homosexuality, bisexuality, gender roles, or body type expectations. Game stories of this weight didn’t exist when I was younger and honestly, I don’t know how teenage CopperTom would have viewed such things. Does anyone know if the game was originally supposed to be more open world, like the early Seattle section with the map? After that, the game was very linear. I was expecting this to be on this generation’s Mount Rushmore of games, but I’m not quite sure it got there.
I agree with this. This game is very very good, but I think the pacing makes it drag a bit. Definitely belongs in the conversation for best game of the generation, but not in that top tier of all time games.
Also, I believe it was mentioned by Druckman in a podcast that they did consider making more of the game open world in the conceptual phase, but they were afraid the narrative structure would suffer.
I finally finished over the weekend (I'm slow I know). Words like gripping and stunning come to mind when trying to encapsulate the overall narrative. It's not without it's faults but I was genuinely 'moved' several times over the course of the game. I'll try to provide more detail or perhaps follow on to Monkey's excellent review when I'm ready. I'll be first to admit that I regret and am a moron for reading the pre-release leaks....you have to play/experience the game to really appreciate it.

I was suckered in by all the hate I suppose and loved the first game so much; I had a hard time believing the story was as bad and 'woke' as everyone was claiming. It's obviously neither, on par with the first IMO from a narrative perspective, though I think the first has a slight edge. And all of the 'woke/SJW' claims were total horseshit. I never bought into that shit, but it's a real shame the amount of hate Naughty Dog team got over something so callous for a story so boldly executed. Youtube truly is the devil.
I'm still gutted about losing Joel, though I completely understand this outstanding story couldn't have existed without this incident. I just wonder how I would have reacted had I not known about his death going in...
Also, whoever said the last flashback with him and Ellie on the porch was perfect is spot on; I nearly lost it watching him fight back his tears when she said that she wanted to try and forgive him.
