there were ample reports that a new album was nearly complete. I'm half wondering if this isn't a publicity stunt and then they'll surprise drop the album

Yeah I love Discovery too. If all I had was Discovery and RAM, I'd still consider them one of my all-time favorite bands.
HasItLeaked is a pretty reputable source for insider music news, and today they posted that the work-in-progress album has been shelved, and that planned Deluxe reissues of the main albums (excluding Tron) are on hold as well. WTF.

Yeah but Homework is still a classic, especially during that era of electronic music. A total spearhead.
I get that, but it wasn't my experience. I didn't really get into Daft Punk until HAA, and I wasn't listening to much electronic music in the late 90s (a little bit, but it was all Ninja Tune/MoWax/Warp Records, and I tended towards downtempo big beat stuff). Connecting with the album later was a bit of a challenge, and Discovery went down much smoother.
I should spin Homework again, it's been a while. I'll do it soon.
