The HVAC blower stopped working so I was checking the interior fuses and I pulled the wrong one and dropped it beneath the fuse block. I can't get down in there. Out of frustration I just started the car and the AC was NOW WORKING but the windshield wipers WEREN'T!?! It turns out the missing "fuse" I dropped was the "accessory diode". What does this do? Does it have to be in there? Why would this have happened?! PLEASE HELP cause google doesn't have any answers.

I can't tell.. probably.. can I just walk into a local auto parts store and say I need a tiny diode? My main question is do I even really need an "accessory diode"? Why would removing it fix the HVAC blower but kill the windshield wipers? Maybe it was just removing and plugging back in the fuse that fixed the blower? Why would the wipers die?!

The accessory diode probably acts as a relay. If that's true, it'll power up other things when you turn the key to acc and on. Get another one, pop it in, and hope. Debugging electrical issues in cars can suck.
A diode simply controls which way current flows to your flux capacitor. Removing it has probably created a matrix issue. Best to pour some nether fluid over the block to cleanse it of particle waves.
