Molina's tough for me... I think all catchers are, though. But did he have a better career than his contemporaries? Mauer? McCann? Martin? They're all on basically the same level, and I don't know the answer to any of them.

Should contemporaries matter? I'm a no on Molina, but in that context he probably is the best catcher of his generation, but I'm hesitant about making contemporaries a consideration. Then again, I'm a very small hall guy.

I wasn't specifically comparing him to his contemporaries, just to other catchers who have provided similar value over their careers... they just happened to be contemporaries.

Yadi is the best of his generation, but I don't think he gets in. I think Posey ends up with the stronger case, but will still be on the bubble.
Buster Posey?

Posey is way better than Molina.

Nelson Cruz

The guy has 416 career homeruns. He's 40 years old, but he's still hitting homers about as well as he ever has. There's a fair chance he has two more years in him and he could join the 500 homerun club. That'd be the only way he has a chance of getting in. BUT there is that fifty game steroid suspension on his record, so I think even then he would not stand a chance.
Sorry, Nelson Cruz

How did it take baseball so long to realize that this man was born a full-time DH?

Yeah, Cruz is in a category with other guys like Bautista and Encarnacion who had some really good years and a really high peak but who were too old by the time they got good to put together a Hall of Fame career.

Kind of wild that Zito/Haren/Hudson ended up on the ballot at the same time.
