Here we go indeed.

I could see something like this:
--Trump appoints Amy Coney Barrett and the Republican controlled Senate quickly approves her, perhaps before the election.
--Dems win back the presidency and the Senate and retaliate by packing the Court with extreme prejudice.

We'll see how that holds up in a year or two from now.

Is there enough time to confirm a nominee before the election?

Something tells me they're going to make time. Might even mean working weekends.

I'm thinking more about Senate rules--iirc there's a requisite number of hours that they have to hold discussion and debate. The Kavanaugh hearings took at least a month, right? Or did it just feel like that?

One thing's for sure, the next month is going to be the absolute worst month of being online ever.

Kavanaugh was nominated by Trump on July 9th. He was confirmed on October 6th.

Six weeks is more than enough to shove through a nominee quickly. McConnell would do it quicker if he had to.

Do you think they'll nominate a butt chugging rapist this time though?

Will have to be 3 more. 4 total.

The real nightmare plan would be to use folks like Murkowski as cover and/or claim to want to wait until after the election (which would drive right-wing turnout as all those Never-Trumpers realize they can't stomach progressive rulings on labor laws), and then either confirm in a lame duck or at the start of his second term.

Yeah, forgot about Pence breaking the tie.

There's also the scenario in which Biden wins but the GOP keeps the Senate, and Murkowski and all other Republicans get on board with a lame duck appointment.

Murkowski, Collins, and Romney can all save face by refusing to vote, and then Lil' Mikey Pence will get to cast the deciding vote.

If they don’t fill it, you’ll see a LOT of never Trump republicans decide they can vote for him if it means getting a conservative court.

Also if I'm not mistaken they can fill the seat in a lame duck session whether they keep the senate or not, so they have approximately four months.

It's disappointing sure but it was always going to be long odds she made it through Trump's term given the constant stream of health issues.

She bears some blame for not retiring during Obama's second term
