I've a feeling kozelek doesn't give a shit about cancel culture. also, while it also strikes me as obvious behavior from him based on his personality, it sucks when someone whose art you enjoy winds up being a goddamn monster.

Yeah that's where I'm at--not at all surprised given the past six years, but on the other hand Ghosts of the Great Highway and Benji were big albums for me and they definitely feel tainted now. What a piece of shit.

I think it's a little more complicated than that--I said it in another thread, but the parallel one of his victims draws to Louis CK is really apt. I loved Benji--and I loved Louis--but in both cases the appeal of the art is the (yes, partially fabricated) conceit that it hovers somewhere between fiction and autobiography. It's a little different from being like, "oh well, Aziz Ansari is a piece of shit, so I can't watch him play this other role in a movie." There's something much ickier about Kozelek because of the lack of distance between his personal life and his art.

This, exactly.

Also, I think you have to be willing to own your shit, and so far the men involved in these cases (Louis, Adams) has yet to actually own their shit in a remotely believable way.

It’s more, woe is me... fuck that.

That's less surprising than Michael Gira and Jeff Ross combined.

i can see this...i guess i tend to not focus on it as much with musicians since i can kinda get lost in the instrumentation and vocals and force the lyrics to the back of my mind...a louis ck standup special is almost impossible to do something similar with

This is how I feel now about the first two Trapt albums.

It is important that I publicly and unconditionally deny that I engaged in the inappropriate and disturbing incidents falsely depicted in the media. While I support the important work of addressing legitimate claims of sexual misconduct, I reject the false allegations and innuendo in the recent press.

I have retained the legal counsel of Lavely & Singer to investigate and to pursue as necessary any claims against anyone participating to defame me in the media.
