Currently struggling through “Our Man Bashir”...holodeck episodes are almost always death

Bashir episodes are the worst.

I love Bashir but I think it’s mostly because I find Siddiq to be such a charismatic actor. I wish his career outside of Trek had been more successful.

He's the worst actor ever and I love watching him.

Showed my wife a nice sampling of Trek over the last few days:

TOS: Space Seed
The Wrath of Khan
TNG: The Best of Both Worlds
TNG: Family
Generations
First Contact

Really fun going through them again. “Family” made me cry a lot. Sometimes estranged brother narratives really hit me.

Man I wish these DS9 seasons were shorter. Every time the serialized narrative gets juicy everything grinds to a halt for another stretch of story-of-the-week episodes.

I ended up skipping a lot of those. It's pretty easy to do, since they are so separated from the main story.

The problem is the episodes are still good and worth watching. They just slow down the pacing like crazy.

Is there a consensus generally on the best Next Gen. seasons? I'm watching straight through (or trying to), but a friend who's all in told me to just hit a few greatest hits episodes in the first two seasons and dive in on the third. That's what I've done, and it's great so far, but I was curious if there was a general golden age for the show.

1 and 2 are the worst. 3 and 4 are probably the best. 5 and 6 are close behind, and even in the discussion for a «seasons 3-6 are the best». 7 is very uneven, but has some gems.

This is the correct answer

Five is included in 3-6.

The third season's been really, really good so far. I didn't watch a lot of Season 1-2 (like you guys, I'd been told they were spotty), but some of the episodes I did watch were pretty great; The Measure of a Man was a big favorite, and the ending to Q Who was pretty chilling.

5 is my favorite, but it still has a handful of absolute dogshit episodes. It was a different time.

I thought you were agreeing with the 3 and 4 were best part!!!! Very brave of you and Anders to agree that 57% of all the seasons were the best!
