So I listened to By The Way last night, and I actually do think I'd cut 2-3 songs:

I Could Die For You
On Mercury

Those can both go. And then I'm lukewarm on Midnight. I like the chorus well enough, but the verses are pretty boring.

I just tried to sift through the Klinghoffer albums in an attempt to find something. Lot of samey tunes that never really take off.

On Mercury is so good, I can’t imagine why you’d leave that one off trag.

those horns get kind of annoying. It's not quite perky and fun enough to stick around, like Throw Away Your Television or Cabron; and it's not really edgy enough like Can't Stop or This Is The Place. It's just sort of flaccid and there.

I love the chorus, especially “you always took me with a smile when I was down.”

"Cabron" is probably my favorite RHCP song.

Kaius needs to shave Danny California from his SA mix for it to be taken seriously. Think about it, guy.

I haven't finalised a tracklisting but all of these are cut from my version of BTW:

Universally Speaking
Midnight
Cabron
Tear
On Mercury
Warm Tape
Venice Queen (maybe)

These b-sides are in, all of which I like better than the above:

Time
Eskimo
Out of Range
Body of Water (probably)

I'm listening now because the idea of a RHCP ska song with horns sounded fun, but I think that's an accordion

No flea plays the trumpet. It’s got a mute on it.

Are you talking about the instrument on the right channel that runs through the entire song?

No way that is a trumpet, listen to the run it does at 1:49. I'm no horn expert but I don't think you can physically get that sound out of a trumpet. Also listen to the ending, that's gotta be either an accordion or a bandoneon or similar

I'm with Jorge on this one.

I'd also cut Can't Stop and Don't Forget Me if there were other, better songs with which to replace them as I'm not crazy about either.

Can’t Stop is great, it was most overplayed by the radio.

I want to dig into this instrument issue but it’s useless from my phone
