I just finished this. It was good, but I was really dissappointed after reading how much they had changed the story and how inaccurate their depiction of radiation's health effect were. Legasov's speech at the trial didn't happen, people didn't stand on the "bridge of death", the 3 divers didn't die, radiation sickness is not contagious, the helicopter crash happened few weeks later and it crashed on a crane etc.
But why care about facts when you can tell a great story?

"Midnight in Chernobyl" is a really great book if you want to delve into the history. There are dozens of actual people in there who didn't get turned into characters in the show, and their stories are fascinating.

Radiation is not contagious, but it certainly does radiate. Did the show imply its contagious, or did it imply that it can be spread from contaminated items, which is true? I'm genuinely asking, can't remember one way or another.
Midnight in Chernobyl is definitely a great read btw, I second that rec.

HBO has a documentary out now called Chernobyl: The Lost Tapes. Video footage of the cleanup immediately after. Very haunting to see some of those guys cleaning that shit from the rig knowing they’ll probably die.
