I've passed out too. Not while running, but I don't think it's a big deal as long as there aren't other symptoms.

I've never passed out before. It doesn't seem like very much fun.

And was totally unrelated to your stroke?

I watched a friend of mine pass out once. She was mid-sentence, standing up. She just froze and fell over backwards, straight to the floor. He body didn't bend at all. Just straight back. She hit hard, smacked her head on the floor. I legit thought I'd just witnessed a human die right in front of me.

It was terrifying.

I've done that before. I stood up too fast, started walking. Got about halfway through the dining room - and mid-sentence - when my perspective just went from standing to looking up at the ceiling. Totally blacked out. My sister wasn't too concerned since I came to but said it was weird watching me fail.

Family, yanno?

The two scariest things that happen to many runners (fainting after running and blood in your urine) are generally not a huge deal.

I posted on a running message board for a while and there was an **urgent!** new thread started just about every day about one of the two.

It's even scarier when it's from a five foot tall barstool and they land on their neck and shoulders.

I had some pretty severe anxiety issues after the stroke. So it was related in a way, but nothing to worry about with regards to a recurrent stroke.

Gotcha. That's good.

This was at a bar. I've not sure I'll ever shake the sound of her head hitting the floor.

The company I work for was bought by our largest competitor. I'm certain that I'll have a place in the new company, but they just offered a fairly nice severance package. I'm tempted to take it and just spend the next 6 months running.

What a beautiful life it would be.

Sometimes I fantasize about being laid off.

Yeah. I've been working full-time for almost 30 years now.

The idea of having a few months off is really appealing and I'm not sure I give a fuck about having a gap in my work history.

I tweaked my left hammy AGAIN.

I think I've convinced myself that running in 10MM heel-to-toe shoes is stressing my hamstrings and they just aren't as durable and strong as my calves.

I ran 10 years in minimalist shoes without a major injury and since switching back to "normal" shoes, I've torn my Achilles and hurt both my hamstrings.

I'm fully aware that it could just be age and accumulation of miles, but I'd rather blame the shoes.

I can't have both you and Tim on the shelf just as I'm beginning to get back.

I'll probably still be running 30 to 40 miles a week.

My shoe/form diagnosis was confirmed today.

Ran in an old pair of NB racing flats and my hamstring feels solid but my calves are feeling it.

Basically it feels uncomfortable to heel-pound without any padding, so I really have to concentrate on forefoot running and that increases my leg turnover.

182 cadence today.

(deep, sad sigh)

This fucking winter has broken me.

Saw a PT about the tendinitis in my knee yesterday. It's felt like shit for 3 weeks now. No power, hurts to bend, flex, squat, etc. She showed me a couple things to strengthen my hips and hopefully help the knee heal faster. She encouraged me to run while it's healing and told me to plan on running the marathon in 8 weeks. She's somewhat of a runner so I guess she knows what she's doing. Going into the appointment the knee felt better than it had in weeks and I left feeling optimistic.

But after today I dunno. 3 miles this morning didn't feel too bad, but it didn't feel right, either. And after sitting all day at work and then shoveling* for an hour, it feels just as shitty tonight as it did two weeks ago.

I guess I don't see the point in spending the next 8 weeks wrapped in ice packs and heating pads just to hobble through a godawful marathon.

Feels like the smarter long term move is to spend the next two months resting, doing PT and cross training, then start running when the pain is 100% gone.

I'm seeing a lot of "tendinitis never really does away" horror stories on the internet.

But I guess I'll give the PT's plan a week and see how it goes.

Godspeed running bros.

* We paid a guy to shovel 3' of snow off the roof today, so now there are piles in the yard literally tall enough to climb on top of and step onto the roof. Guess who had to move one on one leg because the bozo buried the dryer vent.
