I ordered my breakfast tacos en español this morning.
I'm sure the latino server was very impressed
She was Greek!
then why the hell did you order in spanish?
He doesn't speak Greek?
why not assume the server speaks english though?
Why limit ourselves to one language? We should strive for a language fluid world.
in all seriousness, if i was waiting on you and you spoke to me in Spanish and it was clear that neither one of us was of latino descent, I'd be highly annoyed. It creates an opportunity for a mistake with your order, plus it's just obnoxious
What if I was ordering in English but wearing a guayabera and switching on my best NPR enunciation voice while pronouncing the word “tortilla”?
way less annoying, because at least i won't fuck up your order

I'd put this in the same realm as when an English-speaking customer would start micromanaging the service. Just tell me what you want to eat and if we need to accommodate any dietary restrictions. Otherwise please trust us to do our job correctly. Using a different language is problematic because then it's like "Well, he clearly said 'frijoles negroes,' so I'm not sure why he's sending these back for refried."
