I feel like you're the first person to get it, Ruddo. I owe you dinner and a drink of your choice.
on a side note, joe. did you read the story in NY mag about your Prune chefs and their attempt at getting the spotted pig?
I did not. That would have been awesome. What fell through?
sexual harassment and good 'ol ken friedman..look it up, i think it may have just come out today
Damn, man. That's a complicated story. I can totally see both sides of it. I see what Hamilton means about wanting to take over and change the culture but I also understand the POV that she was capitalizing on pain and teaming with a known offender.
Either way, if she can't oust Friedman all together, I'm glad she's severing ties. But a Spotted Pig owned/operated by Gabrielle Hamilton and Ashley Merriman would have been fucking fantastic.
I have to admit it's difficult for me to have a lot of compassion for her. I can appreciate that she was in over her head, and that she had more experienced professionals (like attorneys and the other people who were trying to set her up out in CA) giving her bad advice to tough it out. But I think both the length of time and sheer volume of inappropriate behavior that she allowed to happen outweighs her "victim by lack of understanding" by a fair margin. At a certain point her conscience should have taken over, and it seems clear that she repeatedly put her desire for success and creative autonomy ahead of the well-being of her employees.

I guess... I'm confused. Didn't she take over at the end of June? And she left in early September when it became clear that she wasn't going to be able to turn it around. And I'm not aware of the volume of inappropriate behavior that took place in those three months. I guess I need to read up on it more.
i think you guys are talking about april bloomfield, right? not the ladies from prune and their effort to take the place from ken
I think Trag might be. But I'm definitely talking about Hamilton (from Prune). My only issue (based on what I've read, which admittedly isn't much, in the last half an hour or whatever) is that she aligned herself with Friedman at all. But I also understand he point of view, that she thought she could clean it up and turn it into something else. I'm just saying that I see why former employees like the one quoted in the NYT article might feel betrayed by her and dubious.
