The Saudis are the main propagators of Salafism and Wahhabism.
Fuck them.
From the article you lnked to:
«Fifteen of the 19 terrorists in the 9/11 attacks were Saudis. The US investigated some Saudi diplomats and others with government ties who knew hijackers after they arrived in the US, according to documents declassified in 2016.
The 9/11 Commission report found “no evidence that the Saudi government as an institution or senior Saudi officials individually funded” the attacks al-Qaida masterminded, but the commission also noted “the likelihood” that Saudi government-sponsored charities did.»
I agree that the Saudis have supported ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

run2death gets it.
How do we, as a society, make the Saudia Arabia problem more well known? Is that up to the media? Our politicians? Grassroots? It makes me sick how closely aligned we are with them when they are such a big part of the problem.

Oh I thought you were saying the Saudis bombing Yemen and causing the famine was a conspiracy. (It’s not a conspiracy. They are and they have caused it). My bad. Sorry.

If we can move back from rediscovering 9/11 for a moment, I think it’s worth keeping in mind as this unfolds that 90% of the response and cost happens behind the scenes. Everything being said in public is crafted by the speaker to further their preferred outcomes on THAT field.
There’s a reason that republicans are spending more TV time lambasting SA than anybody else...presumably, it’s to keep pressure on the prince regarding a deal they want him to accept (and which doesn’t necessarily involve Donald Trump, who clearly just wants it all to go away). They’re telling him that this doesn’t go away, unless (x). That deal may not directly involve the US at all, but rather something we benefit from, like greater economic associations with other US allies.
Turkey holds the cards, and so may be in the driver’s seat until/unless we act to curb them. Do you want us to ask them to stand down? Well, here’s what makes that possible...

Here, this:
Basically, there will be a cost to SA over this, and the government of each country will move on, but it’s not like the crown prince is going to face charges or anything insane like that. Most likely we won’t have much visibility on whatever it is, and will still be referring to “that time we let SA murder a journalist” five years from now. Everyone will have room to frame it such that it fits their worldview. Burt will see it as proof that nothing matters, the apathy thread will be refueled, Dems will rage, etc.

Politicians that are willing to stand up to them and demand answers when the paper trail leads back to them.
We need to have real discussions about "Western" and Islamic ideas and make decisions as a society about what we will and will not allow.
The U.N. needs to take a hard-line with the Human Rights Council and nations need to cut off aid and relations with countries that don't meet certain minimums.
I know that in this fucked up time when "culture" matters more than basic human rights this sounds "conservative," but I don't give a fuck about your culture if it involves stripping rights, killing dissidents and generally destroying everything that's not in your narrow view.
Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb, a Saudi diplomat and intelligence officer, is among the men under investigation by the Turkish authorities as part of the probe of the disappearance and suspected death of Khashoggi. Mutreb is closely connected to Crown Prince Mohamed bin Salman, a Saudi source told CNN.

Didn't some new guy take over the kingdom and kill/arrest the rest of the family a few months ago or something? Are we dealing with him now? I can't be bothered to look it up.
Their army is worthless anyway. Might be a good time to find new friends.

I support the Elizabeth Warren 2020 election ticket. I think that Corey Booker would make an excellent VP. Go Get Em! P.S. Bitcoin is weak compared to central government fiat currency; and Brett Kavanaugh was clearly unfit to be a supreme court judge.
This is quite an about-face, but I understand. It just took some time to come around.
