why wouldn't trump pardon him to keep him from singing?
He signaled it often enough. As I’ve said, I think that some of what Manafort knew was due to come out in this trial would have made it too politically expensive...and that maybe the midterms would make it even more so.

Manafort now wouldn't want to be pardoned, because a pardon would go against the terms of the deal. He'd be forfeiting whatever gains he got, the rest of his assets could be seized, and he would die in jail.

Would he be in jail if pardoned? Assets and all that stuff, i understand, but isn't the point of the pardon to keep him out of dying in jail?

His deal with Mueller caps his sentencing at five years per charge, plus Mueller will recommend a shorter sentence. Abramason estimates that Manafort will be out of prison around the age of 80. If he gets pardoned by Trump, that forfeits the deal; Mueller/the DOJ could then take him to trial on those charges he's just made a deal on, and he would then certainly die in prison.

We just talked about why this effectively nullifies any pardon ambitions earlier today.
Yes but this is a group who constantly re-ranks that which has previously been ranked. Certainly the machinations of a Conspiracy Against the United States case are worth the occasional revisit?
