they should just write new songs that are amazing so they dont have to tinker with their old songs that they must be bored to death of.
Tinkering with the old songs might make them seem newer and less boring. Porch and RVM have become boring but if they circled around which songs they give this treatment to (and maybe sometimes play the original versions of the old ones) it can add some freshness.
Lets face it, we're never getting any better songs than what we have now, so they might as well freshen up their catalog.

I think they definitely have another great album in them, but I don’t know if they’ll ever have the motivation to pull it out of themselves collectively.

i've said it before, but they'll another great album someday, probably when they're a bit older. They're all so comfortable now, raising kids and whatnot. But empty nests will give way to friends dying, stuff like that. They'll eventually mellow and release a great relaxed, atmospheric album with songs about death, regrets, etc

if they insist on working with Brendan O'Brien you can forget about it
at this point, I'd take another Avocado record in a heartbeat

Ed is done. He can barely sing anymore and has written like 5 songs in the last 10 years, most of which suck. I have no doubt that the other 4 guys can still create compelling music together but what does it matter if the final product is trite crap like Infallible, Mind Your Manners, Got Some, etc?
