  probably my favorite watt record overall, but it's heady, and musically it's all over the place (i'd maybe call it a sea shanty-jazz-punk opera?).

minutemen records are more immediately accessible, even if they are far more monochromatic in tone, you know?

WM, do you wanna listen to early Pavement or recent Malkmus? I'd say use that as your guide, their sonic/musical progressions are fairly similar.

Trag, engine room is great. I’m surprised at how many songs I recognized.

I'm listening to '...Engine Room' for the first time right now. It's the first Watt record I've heard, actually. He's a monster on the bass, and Nels Cline is insane.

I'm not sure that I agree with the 'punk' tag, but what else can you call it?

Watt just released four instrumental jam sessions from the '97 Wylde Ratttz project.

Background: Wylde Ratttz was a brief project including Watt, Ron Ashton, Thurston Moore, Mark Arm, Steve Shelley, Don Fleming, and Jim Dunbar. Their primarily goal was to provide a bunch of covers of The Stooges songs for that Velvet Goldmine movie.

But these four tracks are epic instrumental space jams, from those session, with a slightly different band makeup:

Quote:
Ron Asheton: Guitar.
Sean Ono Lennon: Multitronics.
Thurston Moore: Guitar, electronics.
Steve Shelley: Drums, percussion.
Mike "Pipe" Watt: Bass, Beam.

Two tracks are here.
Two more tracks here.

Fun stuff.

Those were cool. Oh i loved Ron Asheton so much....remember the All Tomorrow Parties of 2002? Ed was there. Amazing jam of No Fun.
Are those stooges songs available?

Also, have you listened to the Mike Baggeta Wall Of Flowers Album? Its him, Mike and fucking Jim Keltner.
