SO!

We're doing a pop-punk tournament after the nu-metal one.

We want to include songs from the 1994-2005 period of music that could be categorized as:
pop-punk
ska-punk
emo***

Like the current nu-metal tournament, we want to keep it to songs that achieved some level of notability. Songs that a good amount of posters will recognize.

Think of classics such as:
Green Day - "Basket Case"
The Offspring - "Self Esteem"
Save Ferris - "Come On Eileen"
Blink 182 - "All the Small Things"
Sum 41 - "Fat Lip"
Jimmy Eat World- "The Middle"
Fall Out Boy - "Sugar We're Going Down"
My Chemical Romance - "Helena"

Is there any crossover with the nu-metal tournament? I'm open to including any song that could be described as one of the genres listed above. I'm thinking "Movies" by Alien Ant Farm would count, but I can't think of any others.
Are we include songs by ___ artist? Depends! Can the song in question be described as one of the genres above? We're doing it on a song-by-song basis and not an artist-by-artist basis. So, "Just a Girl" by No Doubt would qualify, but "No Speak" wouldn't. "All-Star" by Smash Mouth would NOT qualify, but their cover of "Why Can't We Be Friends" would.
On that note, do cover versions count? Absolutely. The late-nineties ska boom would be nothing without re-appropriated tunes with ill-fitting horn sections.
These songs are all horrible! I know! It's great!

So... feel free to suggest ANY song that you think might qualify.

***yes, I understand the term "emo" was initially used to describe bands from the "emotive hardcore" DC scene such as Rites of Spring or Sunny Day Real Estate, but in this tournament we are referring to that poppier brand of emo-influenced pop-punk music such as My Chemical Romance, Fall Out Boy and Panic! At the Disco. Y'know, the wussy stuff

How do you guys feel about this approach? I just thought of it and, while it felt right when I was writing it, it struck me that this would leave out a song like "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Green Day, which feels... wrong. Is there room for wussy acoustic ballads if they were made by a seminal pop-punk artist like Green Day? Maybe we can add an exception for that specific song.

No need for hard rules here. Just include what feels right.

I'm OK with Blink's ballads. They feel somewhat punkier. "I Miss You", for instance. Maybe it's Tom Delonge's stupid voice.

yeah the question should be "will the tournament be more fun if we have this song in it?" and if the answer is yes, go with it

It's a shame none of y'all know Saves the Day's album Through Being Cool. It's like the absolute caricature of wussy pop punk emo.
