Still bummed about Tom Petty
Prior to his passing, I was in the process of filling in my collection of his. Up to that point, I had gotten his first 3 albums, Full Moon Fever, Wildflowers, Greatest Hits, and the Traveling Wilbury's vol. 1.
Since his passing, I now pretty much have his early career with the Heartbreakers first 7 albums. Of those, I really like 'You're Gonna Get It'. For me, I think it's his most consistent album, but it seems to get a little overlooked being between the debut, and 'Damn The Torpedoes'. Both great albums as well.
From my newer batch, both Hard Promises and Long After Dark are pretty great with the slight edge to Hard Promises. Southern Accents is pretty cool too, and I don't think I was expecting a song like "It Ain't Nothin' To Me"; "Spike" is a fun ditty. 'Let Me Up (I've Had Enough') is probably the weakest for me of those first 7 albums but still pretty solid. Highlights from it are: "Jammin' Me", "My Life/Your World" "A Self Made Man" and "How Many More Days".
I was visiting a friend last weekend and we were drunkenly playing petty covers and of course would always revert back to have Love Will Travel.
Singing this part:
Yeah, when all of this is over, Should I lose you in the smoke? I want you to know you were the one. And may my love travel with you everywhere Baby, may my love travel with you always.

I've always been a pretty casual Petty fan but I picked up "Full Moon Fever" today at the bookstore and am thinking it's time for me to dig in. What a damn delightful little rock n' roll record.

It is absolutely delightful. I look forward to your journey! He is one of the most consistent rock n roll artists of our time. Very little is mind blowing, most is so enjoyable that life becomes better for it, and only a little is laughable.

Perhaps it speaks more to my naturally depressed state of mind more than anything else, but Echo is comfortably my favourite TP record. I spin that thing on vinyl almost daily.
Weirdly, 'Let Me Up,...' seems to be considered one of the worst TP records but Runaway Train is a top 5 song for me.
