Lifeless action is what you call the last twenty minutes of BvS. Punch Punch Punch...

I was disappointed in the lack of creativity in the first Ant man though. This sounds like more of the same. Marvels action scenes tend to be fairly inventive, or at least varied, but for some reason they went ultra safe on this one. This wasn't the movie to play it safe on.

agreed. i like that they tell their own story and are in their "own" world. the last 20 minutes and the mid credit scene are the only things that really reference the overall story of the avengers

What happens? i wont see this one.

Spoiler: show
The film's main plot involves getting The Wasp's mom (Michelle Pfeiffer) out of the Quantum Realm, where she's been trapped for 30 years. They do of course get her out, and in the mid credits scene they send Ant Man into the Quantum Realm. He is communicating with Hank Pym while in there, and all of a sudden Hank stops responding. Cut to the rooftop where they sent him in there, and Hank, Janet (Pfeiffer), and The Wasp all turn to ash.

and to add
Spoiler: show
i only watched it once with out any spoilers, but its being reported that you see the colors of the stones flare while he is in there. linking the quantum realm to the gems like this allows the remaining heroes a chance to defeat thanos using hank pyms technology

so basically, just watch the mid-credits scene and I'll be good for how it ties into the MCU?

Thats not so hard. Black Pantha remains as one of the worst movie moments of the year.

It seems obvious to me.

Things happen that aren't just punching and kicking. Part of it is that most Marvel characters have much more limited (and weird) powers and personality flaws, which gives the creators much more to work with. The characters compliment each other. They work together (and clash against each other) in sometimes interesting ways. Many of them can't just punch and kick their way through a problem like Wonder Woman, Superman, and Aquaman can.

Even the punchy kicky guys in Marvel movies (Hulk and Thor) are limited in other ways, so the filmmakers are able to be more creative. They can be given problems that their strength can't used on.

Contrast the scene of Ironman and company trying to disarm Thanos in the last Avengers movie with the finales of BvS or Justice League. There is no comparison. Those DC movies don't have an ounce of creativity or storytelling in the fight scenes (except that one excellent scene where Batman fights some random thugs, which seems like its from another, much better movie). The characters could be swapped around and it would make no difference. There is no sense of place either. Its just a CG fighting game arena.

Even the scenery has a story in that Avengers scene. The backgrounds in both Justice League and BvS are terribly generic backdrops with walls that only exist to collapse when someone is punched into them.

And anyway Superman just shows up and kicks everyone else's ass anyway.

Watching a limited Captain America work together with his team to kill human bad guys is infinitely more satisfying than watching two gods like Superman and Doomsday duke it out and punch each other into space.

Spoiler: show
Likes:
Evangeline Lilly This. really was her movie. There honestly were moments where I kinda forgot Paul Rudd was in it.
The visual of the effects for Ghost.
The Small scale "rescue" movie as far as the characters were concerned.
The Ghost character in general.
The Mid-Credits scene
The Ant stuff was stupid and funny.
Quantum Realm looked great again.

Dislikes:
The Bobby Cannavale over the top friendship with Scott seemed WAAAAY over the top to the point of being uncomfortable. He was So good in Boardwalk empire, but Vinyl and this? Wow.
The Walton Goggins story line just felt like it complicated things needlessly.
Why did they make Judy Greer seem like an idiot?
The Pseudo science speak, although they did an okay job mocking it too.
I didn't mind fishburne but man that was telegraphed.

There is a difference between compelling characters and compelling/cinematic action sequences. Outside of Ant Man I have a hard time recalling specifics of many battles in the Marvel movies. They make sense in the context of the film and few are offensively bad, but none are memorable or evolutionary.

I would tend to agree with this, yeah.
