Probably essential listening for every American. Makes me wish there was something like this for the lies in Australia’s past. I could only imagine something from the UK.
JFC. Just heard the episode The Assets that traces slavery through corporate America. Banks lent against slaves as assets. Then repossessed and sold etc. Whoa.
So, I decided to give "Your Favorite Band Sucks" a listen. And I'm just not sure how to react. I'm pretty sure I understand the shtick. In fact, I think it's actually helped me understand a lot of RM and internet culture in general. It's given me a much better understanding of the Dev account, for sure. I think. But I'm still torn. It is funny. And I enjoy the bit for the most part. And I do like some the history they throw in. I'll continue to listen to a few more but I'm not sure I enjoy it they way I should. There's just too big a disconnect -- maybe it's an age thing?
Anyway... the Radiohead episode was completely worth it just for the line about how The Bends sounds like if U2 knew how to play their instruments and were obsessed with R.E.M. That was fucking great.
I'm about half way through the Loretta Lynn's The Pill episode of Cocaine and Rhinestones. Other than dude's vocal cadence, I really like this pod. Looking forward to checking out other episodes.
Tyler reads C&R with such a slow, sing-song delivery, it almost feels like a joke sometimes. But the content is outstanding. I've done the Loretta Lynn and Wynonna episodes so far. Both just excellent. It's a great pod if you can get past his cadence.

Awww man, I’m not at all happy with the direction Caliphate is going on episode six. This is a real letdown.
I was also really confused. So...none of that was real? Some of it was real? It feels manipulative that they played the earlier stuff as if it was real, knowing that it maybe wasn't.

It's like they're trying to be like Serial, but it feels deceptive in a way Serial never did. The stakes are inappropriate and that style doesn't fit the story they've been telling. In Serial, an innocent man may be in prison. Here, maybe they just didn't adequately verifyba source's story. They are the badguys here

I definitely think it was real, but he fudged some details and later tried to avoid incriminating himself.
Did you listen to part ten? The follow-up interview with him is terrifying.
