He'll play Danny Torrance in the forthcoming adaptation of Stephen King's 2013 novel 'Doctor Sleep'
Ewan McGregor has been cast as the lead character in the forthcoming cinematic sequel to The Shining.
The Trainspotting actor will play Danny Torrance – son of The Shining‘s Jack – in the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s novel Doctor Sleep (published in 2013), which was written as the follow-up to The Shining.
It was one of the least interesting of King's recent books. It was unnecessary and silly and forgettable. But The Shining (for me) isn't a great book either. And Kubrick made that thing OUTSTANDING. So maybe this will be another rare film that far exceeds the source material. We'll see.

Hopefully Flanagan can do for this book what Kubrick did for The Shining.
If so, I'm all in.
But the source material has me beyond skeptical. Fingers crossed.
Did you read it?
I sure did. When it first came out. So, it's been a while.
So you were not a fan?
Ive only read a synopsis of it now and it seems rather strange but I never judge a King novel until i read it.
King nails the adult Danny Torrence. His journey between The Shining and Doctor Sleep as King lays it out is terrific, and makes perfect sense. My two big problems are with the villains...
1. The female antagonist is described as basically Slash from Guns n' Roses. She is described as having a top hat the "floats." This was so goofy and cartoony, and it drove me bonkers even though it had no impact on the story.
2. The group that she leads is mostly very elderly, and there is entirely too much talk about gurgling bowels, old skin, and more in that vein. It just made me uncomfortable.
Basically everything with Danny was way better than i had hoped it would be, and everything with the villains was just weird.

Man, I can't wait. This was one of my son's favorite films when he was little and it's been great seeing the characters grow along with the kids watching it. Kind of like Harry Potter, in a way.
Though seeing a bearded Hiccup and he sounds like Jay Baruchel?
