At this point, I think the Deleo Brothers just want someone who is dependable and who is invested in making the band work as a full time thing again. The new CD is better than I anticipated (which I should qualify with I wasn't expecting much of anything), and it does SOUND like STP. To be fair to Gutt, Duvall had 2-3 years touring with AIC before they wrote new music, and I think that helped him learn and find his place in the band. It also allowed the band time to sort of find a direction to go in as they got to know him. STP chose a different route...I'm more interested to see if they do a 2nd album with Gutt and see how he progresses as he becomes more comfortable in that spot.

I want them to tour a lot and keep recording music for sure. Its true, AIC had a lot of time with William before they started writing songs...and yes, its a first album and its not bad, it just merely ok.

Bought it because they played Glide at recent shows and he killed it. I think I saw Pruno on a setlist, too. Why didn’t STP ever play these?

Watched some live stuff with the new guy. The main thing I came a way with is how many good songs these guys have in their discography. They did Regeneration a song pretty far down the list of "hit" STP songs and wow what a cool song. I gave the new album a spin. I get why they picked Roll Me Under as the single cause its the only song that stands out in the set and even that song is pretty ordinary. As a touring band they should be good. The guy doesn't have any stage presence but he can hit the notes and that's probably all they need. As a recording band its probably a wrap. He can sound like Scott but he doesn't have any of the intangibles that made him special. To be fair not many do that's what made Scott who he was...I don't blame then for trying or sticking with the STP brand. It's theirs too and its probably the only way to get butts in the seats. I wish them luck.

The new setlist are impressive. Makes sense for them to play those songs if they want to keep a statement about this new lineup.

Listening to the new one.

Its cool, its pretty generic about what stp used to be. Nothing really grabs me, but its a cool release i guess.

Why don't these bands ever try something new?

They always seem to go the route of hiring impersonators for the departed members and becoming their own tribute acts.

I akways thought regeneration should of been the opener on shangri la la. Now they are opening concerts with it.

I feel justified

These guys tried twice over the years to go the different singer route with little success. After thinking about this some more I really don’t begrudge them finding someone to keep the sound and vibe of the band intact. Scott let them all down. That’s not their fault and I don’t think they should have to pay for his mistakes.

I blame Scott for nothing. He made the the band. They are lucky he was able to drag them along for as long as he did.

That’s not entirely true. The DeLeo brothers wrote almost all of the music. Obviously Scott was a great front man, and his melodies and voice and stage presence were a HUGE part of STP’s success. But I genuinely believe that Scott needed Robert and Dean almost as much as they needed him. Again, without the DeLeo’s there aren’t the songs.
